After much consideration, Lara Trump announces she’s quitting her political career before it even began

It looks like Lara Trump’s political career is over before it started.
But at least she has a plethora of other passions to fall back on, like music, broadcasting and fashion design. Come to think of it, it’s a blessing she bowed out of a race she would ultimately lose. The world cannot be deprived of her artistic talents!
The president’s new favorite daughter daughter-in-law announced Thursday she’s not going to run for U.S. Senate in North Carolina, where she hasn’t lived since college. (Over the last 20 years, Lara has resided in New York City and Palm Beach, Florida.)

Her statement is vapid, and the photo she posted with her 79-year-old father-in-law looks superimposed. “After much consideration and heartfelt discussions with my family, friends, and supporters, I have decided not to pursue the United States Senate seat in North Carolina at this time,” she said.
“I am deeply grateful for the encouragement and support I have received from the people of my home state whom I love so much” (but apparently not enough to live near for two decades).
Lara’s withdrawal from a race she hasn’t entered may seem sudden. Her orange-faced in-law has long supported her potential run, saying earlier this month she will “always” be his first choice.
The problem is, that may not be the case for people in the Tar Heel State. For many aspiring senators, the prospect of winning voters over is an expected challenge. It comes with the territory in a democracy, unless your district is gerrymandered (of which there are many).
But Lara may not possess the willpower. After all, she imploded when radio stations stopped playing her crappy Tom Petty cover. We don’t know how the political novice would’ve withstood a competitive general election, especially given her likeliest opponent.

The two-term Democrat plans to enter the fray next week, according to Axios. He left office this year with 48.1% approval in the purple state, with a favorability rating of +11.6.
Faced with a daunting Senate map in 2026, national Democrats have lobbied Cooper to run for months. One operative predicted an “unprecedented” amount of cash would flow into his campaign coffers.
On the Republican side, incumbent senator Thom Tillis announced this summer he will retire from the body, following a barrage of attacks from the president.
With Tillis chased out, the GOP field appeared clear for Lara. Now the favorite is RNC Chair Michael Whatley, whom her daddy-in-law has already endorsed.
Though Lara technically co-ran the RNC with Whatley during 2024, there’s little doubt about who actually pulled the puppet strings. A veteran operative, Whatley ran the North Carolina GOP for years.
“The president feels Whatley has earned his shot,” a source told Politico.
The article goes on to say convicted commander-in-chief knows North Carolina will be an “uphill battle for any Republican.”
It’s apparent that another prominent Republican, Florida governor Ron DeSantis, didn’t feel Lara was equipped to withstand a Senate run. Mr. “Don’t Say Gay” snubbed Eric Trump’s wife when he didn’t appoint her to Florida’s open seat.
Instead, DeSantis appointed Attorney General Ashley Moody to Marco Rubio’s former post, despite multiple MAGA Republicans supporting Lara.
The head MAGA Republican, however, seemed sanguine about the whole affair. “Ron’s doing a good job and that’s his choice. Nothing to do with me,” the president said at the time.
Meanwhile, Lara will head back to her weekend show on Fox News, and hawking her athleisure line. The Lara Trump Collection is… a thing that exists!
Along with her career as a pop star.
And history of sitting in front of a bad green screen.
But what may never exist is Lara Trump’s career as a U.S. Senator.
And that is as tragic as her MAGA Barbie Halloween Costume.
