Alright, let’s talk about a topic that’s been floating around in my mind (pun intended) for a while: gay cruises. Yep, those fabulous floating paradises where you can let your rainbow flag fly high and embrace the open sea with a community that celebrates diversity, inclusion. But, like with any travel experience, there’s a lot to consider before booking your ticket. So, should you gay cruise or not?
The Allure of Gay Cruises
First off, let me say that the idea of a gay cruise sounds incredibly appealing. If you’re single or going as a group that is. For those in long term, monogamous relationships it might not be that appealing. But for the sake of a wild party cruise, lets picture it: you’re on a luxurious ship, surrounded by like-minded folks, with a calendar full of themed parties, drag shows, and poolside dance-offs. It’s like Pride on water, 24/7. For anyone looking to immerse themselves in LGBTQ+ culture while on vacation, a gay cruise can be a dream come true.
But hold on—there’s more to it than just the glitter and glamour. The first thing you need to think about is whether you’re a cruise person at all. Some people adore the idea of being out on the ocean, visiting multiple destinations without the hassle of packing and unpacking at each stop. Others, might get a little queasy at the thought of being stuck on a boat for days on end. If you’re prone to seasickness, a gay cruise might not be the best idea unless you’re prepared with a stash of Dramamine.

The LGBTQ+ Art and Culture Scene
Since the beginning of time there has always been a stroke of LGBTQ “pink” in all things art and culture. From Egyptian and Greek ceramics, to Michael Angelo and Leonardo Da Vinci to Salvador Dali, Andy Warhole and Freda Kahlo.
As an avid traveller and a proud member of the gay community, I naturally favour destinations that celebrate diversity and inclusivity. Although I’m not really one to go chasing after museum exhibitions, ruins and cultural affairs, but if there’s something of significance happening, then yes I’ll pack some formal attire and rub shoulders with the who’s who of the intellectual society.
You also cant keep a good gay down where a Broadway show is concerned! Shows like Kinky Boots, The Phantom of the Opera, Pricilla Queen of the Desert and Mama Mia were made for painting the town PINK.
In this article, I take a look at some of the world’s most gay friendly cities and regions known for their vibrant art and culture scenes. I provide practical travel tips, recommend accommodations, and highlight special events and festivals that you can’t afford to miss.

About Donovan & Mike (Two Guys Abroad)
We’re Donovan and Mike, a semi-retired married couple currently living in Figueira da Foz, Portugal. We have been together for 17 years now and have been traveling from day 1.
SO… About Two Guys Abroad….hmm well we immigrated from South Africa to Montenegro in May 2021 to enjoy a slower pace of life and to use it as a base from which to travel.
As beautiful as Montenegro was, it was not for us, so we immigrated for the second time to Portugal. Donovan was born in Somerset West (South Africa), went to primary and high school there, then did his BA degree with UNISA specializing in marketing, criminology and psychology. His career was mostly sales orientated primarily in the media and real estate industries. He has successfully built-up various businesses over the years and currently owns a guesthouse in South Africa, and another guest accommodation in Portugal.
Mike was born in Cape Town (South Africa) and spent most of his schooling years in Durban. He studied mechanical engineering working mostly in automotive, packaging and the yacht building industry.
