How embarrassing! JD Vance’s puppet strings show during awkward Senate vote

Another day, another embarrassment

JD Vance might seem like a relatively harmless—if morally bankrupt—fixture of the current administration, but that’s precisely what makes him so dangerous. In a new clip, Vance’s seeming willingness to bend whichever way the wind blows is on full display, and it’s chilling.

In a recent Senate vote, Vance as the Vice President is called on to break the tie by casting a final vote. Seems simple enough—the only issue is that Vance appears to not be totally sure what he’s voting for until a woman whispers the right answer in his ear. He then quickly votes affirmative and says, “Gotta make sure.”

The footage quickly went viral for clear reasons. Why does the Vice President not know how to vote or what to vote for? Why is he out of breath while sitting down? Why does he make a joke about being “sure” which way the powers that be want him to vote?

What seems to have happened here is that in a (hopefully brief) moment of unchecked power, the Tr*mp administration seems to have stopped committing to their admittedly terrible performances and admitted to being the complete know-nothings they’ve been from the very start. We saw similar energy with Pam Bondi in last week’s hearing, where she refused to answer a single question put to her. Now we’re seeing Vance fully drop the veil and put his incompetency on obvious display.

It’s not surprising that a man well known for being a spineless loser is continuing on that track. He started off the year by falsely claiming that ICE officers in Minneapolis and elsewhere had “complete immunity” in however they chose to harass and intimidate their victims. He then got booed at the Olympics after flying an entire plane of food to the cuisine capital of Europe. But now he’s seemingly given up even trying to be serious about his job. Why else would he let his puppet strings show like this? Maybe because there’s no longer any point in pretending he’s autonomous?

“He had to ask, ‘what did Tr*mp want me to do?'” one commenter wrote. It’s embarrassing enough to be Tr*mp’s complete puppet—it’s even worse when you can’t even remember the one word answer your puppet masters told you to give.

“Voting ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on tied legislation is literally [JD Vance’s] only Constitutional duty as VP,” tweeted California Congress hopeful and former Obama spokesman TJ Adams-Falconer. “And it’s never a pop quiz.”

“The bar for “breaking a tie” is knowing which way to break it,” another poster wrote on X. “If you need a group chat to figure out yes or no, maybe the problem isn’t the tie.”

It’s pretty disturbing that the VP doesn’t know how to or genuinely has to be puppeteered in the process of casting a simple yes or no vote, especially when these are votes that impact the entire country, including the folks who voted him and his boss in.

Then again, Vance and the entire administration’s searing incompetence could help us get to where we want to be in the midterms. If they’re really stopped caring to this degree, it shows that they’re sure of their power—a little too sure, in fact.

But as Don Lemon tells us, most of the people currently employed by the White House are going to have to start polishing their barely-there resumes very soon. A blue wave appears to be coming, and it’s not going to spare first-time politicians who aren’t able to think for themselves.
