J.K. Rowling, the famous author behind the Harry Potter series, recently made it clear she isn’t interested in forgiveness if the stars of the Harry Potter films ever decide to apologize for opposing her views. She voiced her stance amid ongoing debates about her controversial tweets concerning transgender issues.
The Rowling Twitter Storm
Rowling has been active on X (formerly Twitter), discussing The Cass Report by Dr. Hilary Cass, which she claims labels transgender health care for young people as “severe medical malpractice.” Rowling expressed her outrage, stating, “And if I sound angry, it’s because I’m bloody angry. I read Cass this morning and my anger’s been mounting all day.”
She didn’t hold back in her tweets: “Kids have been irreversibly harmed, and thousands are complicit,” she continued, criticizing everyone from celebrities to media and corporations for supporting transgender youth transitioning.
One follower responded to her on X, “Just waiting for Dan and Emma to give you a very public apology … safe in the knowledge that you will forgive them … “
No Forgiveness for Film Stars
However, Rowling was quick with her reply. “Not safe, I’m afraid.” She argued that celebrities who supported transgender rights should instead apologize to detransitioners and women needing single-sex spaces, ignoring the needs of traumatized trans individuals denied appropriate care.
The Harry Potter Stars’ Support for Trans Rights
Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe have openly supported the trans community. Watson once tweeted her support, affirming, “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned.” She also mentioned her contributions to trans charities. Radcliffe penned an open letter advocating for the recognition of transgender women as women, aligning with health professionals’ advice.
He also moderated a discussion with transgender and nonbinary youth as part of The Trevor Project’s video series. Radcliffe has been working alongside The Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving LGBTQIA+ youth, for over a decade.

A Call for Respect and Safety
Despite Rowling’s claim that she wishes trans people “long, happy lives,” her statements have sparked controversy. She advocates for banning trans women from women’s facilities—spaces that support their safety. Her comments have fueled misperceptions that endanger trans women by depicting them as deceptive or invasive.
Just last month, critics slammed the author for misgendering a well-known trans journalist.
The Unlikely Apology
Rowling’s stance remains firm against the backdrop of celebrity activism. She believes she’s right, standing by her views which she thinks protect women’s rights, even as her opinions contribute to divisiveness. As it stands, Rowling isn’t holding her breath for an apology from Radcliffe and Watson—and many argue she shouldn’t expect one. The real question lingers: might there come a day when Rowling realizes the apologies should be coming from her?
