The hot new gay travel trend? “Friendsmas” in Las Vegas
Why give a present when a luxurious trip is the ultimate gift?

In the age of Amazon instant deliveries, fast fashion, and chosen families, a new wintertime trend is becoming the norm amongst millennial travelers: “Friendsmas.”
Based on recent data from Tripadvisor, many Americans are trading in the traditional gift-giving routine in favor of experiential presents — namely, full-blown and extravagant holiday trips in December and January.

The refined luxury of Las Vegas
According to JJ Bell, president of Sin City’s esteemed Presidential Limo company, “People want the story, the photo, the feeling, something they can talk about for years. Vegas delivers that better than most cities, especially during the holidays.”
So, how does skipping the cable-knit sweater or yuletide socks translate into a luxurious experience?
With a group of six to 12 friends, otherwise extravagant purchases — i.e., VIP airport pickups, group limo rentals, matching outfits, bottle service, and private tours — are suddenly a lot more affordable.
“A decade ago, most of our December guests were couples celebrating anniversaries or families on vacation,” Bell explained. “Now, we’re driving friend groups who want one big memory together instead of buying individual gifts.”
Plus, there’s no shortage of entertainment options for LGBTQ+ friend groups looking to splurge on the perfect night out — from show-stopping mainstays like Cirque du Soleil, to residences from beloved pop queens like Kelly Clarkson, Hilary Duff, and Dolly Parton, and of course, Wizard of Oz at The Sphere.
Additionally, flexible work schedules — especially for those with hybrid or remote employment — have made blocking out enough time for a “Friendsmas” excursion viable.
“Vegas is built for group celebrations,” Bell added. “Friendsmas just fits our DNA. I don’t see this trend slowing down. If anything, it’s going to get bigger as people put more value on shared experiences.”
