Two best friends realize they’re in love on camera & the internet can’t look away
This Valentine's day, believe in love again

Valentine’s Day is almost upon us, and while some cynics might call it a fake holiday invented to get us through the dismal hump of February, it’s still powerful enough to spark some very real romantic confessions. It’s also a reminder that even in the trenches of a new year starting off on a pretty rough note, there’s reason to hold out hope that against all odds, you might just find your Shane Hollander (or Ilya Rozanoff) when and where you least expect it.
In the case of one friends-to-lovers arc on TikTok, viewers were greeted to the happiest possible conclusion this week after one woman confessed her love to one of her best friends…and found that the feeling was mutual.
Nicole Sophia is a musician trying to make it all happen in her 20s, and falling in love in the process. After moving to a new city last year, she fell in with a new group of friends, one of which ended up becoming “some kind of soulmate” after an impromptu romantic confession.

“I’m convinced that one of my best friends is my soulmate,” Sophia says in a TikTok posted earlier this week. “But I don’t really know what kind of soulmates we are…I think she and I would be amazing romantic partners but I also think we might be destined to be the best of friends.”
Definitely a relatable lesbian feeling if ever there was one. For Sophia, there was only one way to find out: film a TikTok where you play your best friend your new love song about them, and watch for their reaction.
“You have to promise not to hate me,” she tells her friend before coming clean. And honestly, ballsy move, because it could have gone the other way.
There’s some suspense at first as her friend starts to pick up what Sophia is putting down. But considering the fact that their body language is already very flirty, we all knew how this was going to go down.
“I knew it from the moment we met, and I never know anything,” Sophia sings. As the song becomes more explicitly romantic, you can see the best friend putting two and two together. Then she leans in for a kiss.
It’s pretty heart-thawing, even for those of us who have long since given up on love. “This is so cute,” one commenter wrote. “I love queer joy.”
“I’m gonna be FURIOUS if this was staged,” another commenter says. The fact that it’s a song reveal AND a love confession does feel quite clicky, but honestly, the energy these two are giving off feels very spontaneous and real. If this is acting, these two should win a joint BAFTA for their efforts.
Now the pair are documenting their friends to lovers story, and people are obsessed. “I think you wrote your own wedding song,” one commenter says in a video from yesterday.
“Update:” another video boasts. “We’re in love. Like…stupidly in love.”
If anyone is looking to bridge the barely-existent lesbian transom between besties and lovers and U-Haul it up this V day, consider this your sign. Sure, things could go the other way, and you might get your heart broken. But if you don’t take the risk, you’ll never know, and in some ways that’s much worse than a broken heart.
