“I feel like the world wants to see it. I don’t know where it is,” Sarah Michelle Gellar said during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live.

Yes, we do want to see it! It’s no mystery that fans of the Scooby-Doo franchise have considered Velma a queer icon. Scooby-Doo writer James Gunn even admitted he intended to portray Velma as a lesbian in his films, but the studio shot it down.

“In 2001 Velma was explicitly gay in my initial script,” he wrote. “But the studio just kept watering it down & watering it down, becoming ambiguous (the version shot), then nothing (the released version) & finally having a boyfriend (the sequel).”

Recent reboots of Mystery Inc. have confirmed Velma as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, like the cartoon special Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! and the HBO Max series Velma. However, what we all need is closure from the 2002 live-action film. And it just so happens that there was a queer moment in the original script for the film, but producers cut it from the final version.

Daphne and Velma Kiss CONFIRMED

Sarah Michelle Gellar appeared on an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen alongside Rosie Perez last week. Two fans were allowed to ask SMG a question and decided to inquire once and for all about the tension between Velma and Daphne.

“I don’t know about a relationship… there was a steamy kiss. It got cut,” Gellar revealed.

The actress is speaking about the 2002 Scooby-Doo film starring Gellar as Daphne, Linda Cardellini as Velma, Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred and Matthew Lillard as Shaggy. This means Gellar and Cardellini kissed during filming, and no one has spoken about it until now.

“There was an actual kiss between Daphne and Velma that got cut,” she continued. “I feel like the world wants to see it. I don’t know where it is.”

Cohen was just as shocked at the revelation as we were. James Gunn, who do we have to beg to get the Kiss Cut?

Gellar said the original script was not intended for young audiences, which is what initially drew all of the actors to the project. Unfortunately, by the time the film hit theaters, it was at a PG rating.

The actress also revealed another deleted scene where Daphne called Fred’s ascot “gay.”

“We were having a fight, Daphne and Fred, and then I yell at him, ‘And that ascot makes you look gay!’ And I slam the door and they cut that too,” she said. “That’s the reason I actually signed onto the movie.”

“It’s something everyone’s thought for a long time!” she continued. “There’s always been an implication about Fred being interested in both parties. It all got cut.”

One thing is for sure, James Gunn’s Rated-R Scooby-Doo would have been a very different movie.
