A few weeks ago, rumors started circulating on TikTok that many felt were too good—and too gay—to ignore.
According to a select group of extremely dubious online posters, Barron Trump—who shut down an entire floor of Tr*mp Tower for a date in late September—was dating an out-gay Argentinian ballroom dancer named Carlos. Naturally, the gays were eating.
Soon enough, the unconfirmed reports caught on like wildfire. Who was Carlos, and how did Barron’s anti-LGBTQ+ daddy feel about his son’s new flame? Was this going to be thing to finally bring That Man down in the eyes of the MAGATs?

“Prince Joffrey did what now?” One commenter asked. “Maybe they got the ballroom for Barron and Carlos,” another wrote, referencing That Man’s ridiculous East Wing renovation project that includes plans for a ballroom that no one asked for.
The internet was salivating for this news. As predicted when Barron started attending NYU—land of the blue-haired baristas and septum-pierced, Judith Butler-quoting freshman enbies—a queer arc was emerging, and everyone was thrilled, while also being annoyed and disgusted, because girl, it’s still a member of the Tr*mp family we’re talking about here.
It was a sweet, sweet fantasy, but as usual with juicy online rumors, a short lived one. As in the case of the hunky (but fake) Louvre thief mugshots, an image of Carlos started circulating that was a little too sexy to be real. The Economic Times even reported on the story in late October, and TikTok soon started removing videos speculating about Barron and Carlos, which only added fuel to the fire.
But alas, when something on the Internet seems to good to be true, that’s usually because it is.
Recently, Snopes debunked the story, explaining that the photo of Barron’s alleged boyfriend is indeed a picture of a dancer named Carlos, but he’s not the Argentinian boyfriend of legend. He is Carlos Strasser, a German ballet dancer and choreographer with no connection to Barron or the Trump family. He performs as an apprentice in the Stuttgart Ballet, and while gorgeous, he has no ties to ballroom dancing or Argentina.
In short, he’s simply another caked-up dancing twink, which we love to see. But beyond that, there’s nothing going on there.
Honestly, we knew the rumors couldn’t possibly be accurate. Even if Carlos was going to NYU with Barron, this guy is clearly out of Barron’s league in every possible way. But the internet loves a photo of a hot ballet dancer, so it’s not surprising that somehow Strasser got connected to this bizarre and untrue story.
But even for posters knowing that the story probably didn’t have legs, it was too good to resist joking about.
If there’s a Barron Trump boyfriend plotline in our future, we’ll get to it eventually, but for now, this juicy tale of ballroom dancing and gay intrigue has been exposed as a collective pipe dream that was just too sweet to last.
