Want to book the Heated Rivalry cottage? There’s a catch you need to know about

Coming to the cottage? Get in line

Ever since Shane and Ilya’s romantic cottage from Heated Rivalry became available to rent on Airbnb for a pretty reasonable price, people have been clearing their schedules for an impromptu retreat in the wilds of Muskoka, Canada.

The glass structure is a stunner.

But if you waited this long to get in on the action, you’re going to need a wing and a prayer.

How about we take this to the next level?

Much like all the stars of Heated Rivalry, the cottage would appear to be booked and busy for years on end. As if waiting until 2027 for the second season of the hit hockey drama wasn’t torture enough, you’ll be in for an even longer wait for Barlochan Cottage.

“The Heated Rivalry cottage…is booked the rest of the year, all of 2027, and January of 2028,” relates intrepid Airbnb reporter Jake in a recent TikTok.

Then again…is anyone surprised? Heated Rivalry dropped in late November, and since we find ourselves now in March with no signs of the craze slowing down, it’s not exactly shocking to learn that people clicked on that Airbnb link with the quickness.

Mind you, the dates only went up until January 2028, so if more dates were revealed it could’ve gone further… Whoever else tried, did you see that too? #imcomingtothecottage #heatedrivalry #shanehollander #ilyarozanov #rachelreid ♬ What the Hell – Avril Lavigne

But here’s the twist—the cottage isn’t actually booked solid yet.

When these users made these posts, booking wasn’t officially open, hence the confusion. But as of today (Tuesday, March 3rd) at 12pm ET, the cottage is…yup, still completely booked until February 2028 and also on the verge of crashing, which is exactly what we thought would happen.

There’s another catch waiting in the wings.

Even if the owners decide to extend bookings beyond early 2028, chances are the reasonable pricing will be a thing of the past by then. When the cottage first showed up on Airbnb for the surprising rate of $248.10 CAD (about $134 US dollars), the owners noted that this broke-friendly rate would only be available until June. But that hasn’t stopped users from flocking to the url to book the location despite what is probably by now a pretty hefty price tag. You can’t put a price on fantasy, people!

As you can imagine, this harsh reality check is prompting gay groans across the world—and not the good kind.

“This is about to be worse than the Ticketmaster wars,” wrote one commenter on Airbnb’s TikTok.

Twilight all over again,” another commenter wrote, referencing the similarly-viral Bella Swan house that sold out for two years right after its initial Airbnb listing in 2025.

Even if things become prohibitvely expensive—or totally booked, as predicted—there’s still hope for the stragglers. Since there are bound to be cancellations within that two-year period, it’s not impossible that you’ll be able to slide in the to cottage’s DMs at some point. But don’t count on it!

“Someone is going to be watching the second season at the cottage,” wrote one commenter, “and I’m unwell.”

That’s certainly going to hit differently.
