This past month gave us new looks at Hudson Williams' first post-'Heated Rivalry' role, the gay epic that's getting Oscar buzz & so much more.

Yep, we’ve suddenly reached the end of September, and with the month flying by, you might’ve missed some of the trailers for exciting LGBTQ+ movies and TV shows that dropped these last few weeks.
Throughout the past month, we’ve gotten first looks at plenty of up-and-coming queer entertainment, from a doc about an American Gladiator, to Hudson Williams’ first post-Heated Rivalry project, to the sweeping gay epic that just might win Best Picture, plus wacky horror-comedies, gripping dramas, and a reality competition series for adult content creators.
To help you stay ahead of it all, we’ve assembled a recap of the best and gayest trailers that hit the internet throughout September, with reminders of when and where you can watch each title.
Check them all out below and mark your calendars accordingly!
Siren: The Voices Of Shelley Beattie
Most of us who grew up in the early ’90s will surely remember athletic competition series American Gladiators as a queer awakening, thanks especially to the toned—and campy!—”gladiator” cast. But did you know that one of them was one of our own? Deaf, bisexual bodybuilder Shelley Beattie broke barriers to become Siren, one of the show’s most revered athletes. But behind the scenes she struggled with mental health & still grappled with trauma from her past, tragically taking her own life in ’08. Now, Oscar-winning deaf actress & ally Marlee Matlin explores her story, working with director Irene Taylor to give voice to the side of Beattie many never knew.
Now streaming on HBO Max.
Crush House
Continuing to prove our thesis that gay people just make for better reality TV, spicy new streamer MENCRUSH presents Crush House, a new series that sees some of the world’s hottest queer content creators vying for a cash prize and the title of MVC, “Most Valuable Crush.” Hosted by adult superstars Josh Moore & JJ Aussie, the series brings famous faces like Kyle Krieger & Rocky Unleashed together under one roof—a gorgeous villa in Baja California—where they’ll live and compete, side-by-side, in a series of wet and wild challenges that test their skills, all leading up to something known as “The Grand Final Orgy.” Okay, we’re hooked!
Now streaming on MENCRUSH.com, with new episodes dropping every Friday.

Tip Toe
Russell T Davies is known for creating the generation-defining gay TV classic Queer As Folk and more recently bringing a lighter touch to sci-fi favorite Doctor Who, but his latest endeavor is decidedly darker than both by some measure, meeting the increasingly volatile moment we find ourselves in. It stars the great Alan Cumming as an out gay bar owner who’s tense connection to his conservative, blue-collar neighbor (David Morrissey) only gets more heated when the latter’s kids get in between them. The five-episode drama made waves when it debuted in the U.K. over the summer, so we’re super intrigued, but bracing ourselves for a tough watch.
Premieres Oct. 2 on Starz
The Restoration At Grayson Manor
Stop us if you’ve heard this before: A spoiled gay man lives at his family’s withering estate, frequently bringing hook-ups home to taunt his mother for disapproving of his sexuality because he can’t produce an heir. When an argument leaves him without his hands, mommie dearest hires experimental doctors to fit him with cybernetic appendages that seem to have a mind of their own, putting everyone on the property in danger. Oh, no? That’s new to you? Well then we think you’ll get a real kick out of gay filmmaker Glenn McQuaid’s wholly original horror comedy starring Star Trek‘s Alice Krige and Glee‘s Chris Colfer as the mother-son duo from hell.
Opening in select theaters on Oct. 9, then available via digital/VOD on Nov. 6.
La Bola Negra
One of the buzziest movies of the year, La Bola Negra just might be the sweeping gay epic we’ve been waiting for. Veneno‘s Javier Ambrossi & Javier Calvo—a.k.a. Los Javis—won Best Director(s) at the Cannes Film Festival for this century-spanning story told from the vantage point of three interconnected characters in 1932, 1937, and 2017, which explore identity, repression & desire, and the preservation of our queer history. And they’ve assembled quite the cast to do it, featuring musocian Guitarricadelafuente’s screen acting debut, Elite‘s Miguel Bernardeau, comedian Julio Torres, and even icons Penélope Cruz & Glenn Close in supporting roles.
Opening in select theaters on Oct. 16, then streaming on Netflix beginning Dec. 2.

Yaga
Canadian streamer Crave is on a hot streak, and their latest offering is a be-witch-ing mystery that happens to have recruited Heated Rivalry breakout Hudson Williams for an intriguing double-role! It follows a private investigator (Schitt’s Creek‘s Noah Reid) on a missing persons case that brings him to a small fishing town, where he crosses paths with a local detective (Letterkenny‘s Clark Backo), a flirty professor (The Matrix icon Carrie-Anne Moss) and a whole host of suspects as he gets caught up in the thorny folklore of Baba Yaga, who might be a blood-thirsty crone or a magical older woman with healing powers—depending on who you ask!
Streaming on AMC+ beginning Oct. 23.
Elsinore
The great Andrew Scott stars in this biopic of actor Ian Charleson, who sadly passed from AIDS in 1990 just a few shorts weeks after delivering a bravura performance in Hamlet at London’s National Theatre. From director Simon Stone & writer Stephen Beresford (Pride), the film explores how Charleson pulled off what’s frequently cited as one of the most demanding roles in theater while privately battling illness & struggling with whether or not to come out. The film boasts an all-star cast including Olivia Colman, Billie Piper & Joe Locke, but all eyes are on Scott, who’s incredible work here already has him seen as a frontrunner for Best Actor at the Oscars.
Opening in theaters on November 20.
La Gradiva
Director Marine Atlan’s acclaimed coming-of-age drama La Gradiva (which won the Grand Prize at Cannes Film Festival’s Critics Week) follows a high school class on a pre-graduation trip to Pompeii—the city famously destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius way back in 73 CE. As they immerse themselves in art & history, the group experiences some outbursts of their own: There’s brainy outsider Suzanne, put-open teacher Madame Mercier, trouble-making cool kid Toni, and troubled gay student James. It’s the latter two who make this especially worthwhile for queer cinephiles, as they precariously navigate their feelings for one another.
Opening in select theaters on Dec. 18.
