The great, the good, and the gay of Provincetown donned their finest white attire last Saturday (Sept. 5) for the town’s annual White Party.
This annual gathering began life in 1986 when a small group of friends gathered at ‘Delft Haven by the Sea’ to play croquet, have a few cocktails, and toast the end of Summer.
Over the years, people began to wear white to mark the end of summer. In 2011, Peter Page, who had shepherded the party for over 20 years, decided to make it a fundraising event. He chose Outer Cape Health Services as the beneficiary.

“If they have fun, the money will come”
Sadly, Dr. Page died in 2014, but his best friend, Bob Lenzi, took on stewardship of the event.
“It’s amazing to see how it’s grown from a small gathering to a huge event!” Lenzi (below) told GayCities.
“This year, we had nearly a thousand guests.
“I’ve been part of this for over 20 years, and it really took off as a fundraising event in 2013.
“This year, we set a record, raising approximately $259K. That brings our total donations to Outer Cape Health Services to over $1.2 million.
“The best thing I’ve learned from hosting this party is … ‘If they have fun, the money will come.’ What I mean is, I keep things simple. No speeches, no silent auctions. And the entertainment comes from all my wonderful guests, who really bring it with their creative and often outrageous outfits. It’s just a fun party at a beautiful location with plenty of free libations. And once you’re through the gates, we never ask for any more money.”
