The BBC reports:

A 28-year-old police officer has been charged with murdering missing Australian TV personality Jesse Baird and his boyfriend Luke Davies. Detectives launched a frantic search on Wednesday after the couple’s bloodied items were found in a bin near Sydney. Beaumont Lamarre-Condon, Baird’s ex-boyfriend, was being sought by police and handed himself in on Friday. Detectives say they are yet to locate the men’s bodies or confirm their cause of death.

Police allege the couple were killed on Monday inside Jesse Baird’s house in Paddington, an inner Sydney suburb, before their bodies were moved in a white van. New South Wales Police have said a bullet matching Beaumont Lamarre-Condon’s work-issued gun was found at the crime scene in Paddington, as was a “significant” amount of blood and upturned furniture. Beaumont Lamarre-Condon was refused bail and appeared in court on Friday afternoon.

Australia’s Fox affiliate reports:

Lamarre-Condon previously dated Mr Baird and police have been told by relatives that their break-up was “bitter”. Mr Baird had reportedly expressed concerns for his safety, although this had never been reported to police.

Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said there were “no warnings or flags to us in relation to his behaviour or any relationship breakdown”.

“Since this inquiry has come along and those investigations were made with family and friends, and it has been well documented that there were some worrying behaviours that have been alleged by family and friends but that was never reported to police,” he said.

The Guardian reports:

Police earlier raided a home in the Sydney suburb of Balmain – understood to be Lamarre-Condon family home – after announcing they were searching for a third person potentially linked to the disappearance

Beverley McGarvey, head of Paramount in Australia and New Zealand, said: “Our hearts go out to Jesse Baird’s family and friends at this devastating time. Jesse’s genuine kindness, warmth and sincerity cannot be overstated as well as his innate ability to make people feel special and valued.”

Lamarre-Condon ran a now-defunct celebrity website called the Australian Reporter which was deregistered in 2016. In videos posted online, he can be seen interviewing celebrities including Russell Crowe.

The case has riveted Australian media for days due to Baird’s status as a nationally known television personality and more recently as an umpire for the Australian Football League.
