Alex Di Giorgio competed for Italy in swimming at two editions of the Olympic Games, later coming out publicly as gay.
He was recently invited to Pride House Milano during the Winter Olympics to share some of his experiences, alongside other LGBTQ athletes. They were part of a panel discussion about the benefits of “living authentically on and off the field.”

Joseph Naklé is a longtime organizer of LGBTQ sports in Milan. A gay athlete himself, he is organizing Pride House for the Winter Olympics.
Di Giorgio was thrust into the headlines in 2019 when his former boyfriend was convicted of stalking him. The stalking occurred in a two-year period between the swimmer’s participation in freestyle relay events at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics.
The publicity around that court case made what was already a protracted and fraught coming-out story even more complicated for the athlete, who had won multiple medals at national level as well as silver at the European Championships.

Di Giorgio has since managed to put those struggles behind him. In 2022, he was part of the first out gay male pairing to compete in the Italian TV version of “Dancing With The Stars” (he and dance partner Moreno Porcu ultimately finished fourth).
He spoke about the bad experiences of the past while appearing on the show.
Now 35, Di Giorgio is a successful fitness trainer, influencer and actor. Regular readers of Outsports’ InstaJocks series will be familiar with his social media output.
In a reel posted by Pride House Milano following the panel event, he shares his thoughts on finding a path towards being authentic in sports.
“In the past, I may not have had the support I would have needed, but I still managed to make it,” says Di Giorgio.
“When I think about what that might have represented, I’ve always tried to be myself, in my own time — the way I believe everyone should be.”
His answer also hints at the homophobia he encountered during his elite swimming career, something he has also previously mentioned on social media.
Olympic medal-winning figure skaters Eric Radford and Paul Poirier appear in the Pride House Milano reel as well, alongside Great Britain ice dance star Lewis Gibson and three-time World Championships medalist for Canada, Kaitlyn Weaver, who came out publicly as queer in 2021.
Alex Di Giorgio’s boyfriend says he’s ‘in love’ with the Olympian
Recently, Di Giorgio has been back in the headlines in Italy, this time for his romantic life.
Around September time, it became known that he is dating Tommaso Zorzi, who is a famous Italian TV personality, and a former winner of Italy’s “Celebrity Big Brother” TV show.
The couple were spotted together frequently, with photos captured by paparazzi, and their relationship subsequently became the subject of wider discussion in the Italian media.
In January 2026, a photo shared on Instagram all but confirmed their romance.
Then earlier this month, Zorzi responded to a question about their relationship during a chat show appearance.
“Yes, I’m in love. What’s he like? Good!” replied Zorzi to the enquiry from host Caterina Bolivo.
It’s a really happy development in the journey of an Olympic athlete that was impacted by fear and mistrust, but has since become characterized by advocacy and pride.
