Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule is all-in on gay sisters building Huskers women’s flag football

Liz and Katie Sowers have earned the support of Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule, as the two women take over flag football.

Liz Sowers and Katie Sowers aren’t just sisters, they are quite possibly the most successful coaching duo in women’s flag football.

Now they’ve brought their coaching talents to Lincoln, where they plan to continue building their championship resumes. And they’ll be doing it with the full support of Nebraska Cornhuskers head football coach Matt Rhule.

The Sowers sisters won five national championships in NAIA women’s flag football with Ottawa University in Kansas.

Katie recently sat down for an interview with Hurrdatsports, in which she talked about the support the two sisters have received from Rhule.

“That’s one of the biggest things that stood out when we had our initial visit,” Katie said in the interview. “The dedication that coach Rhule has and the love that he has that women have access to this game.

“It was something he didn’t need to do but he wanted tot do. Qnd he wanted to let us know that we were supported, and that we have that support from the football team is amazing.

“That’s one of the things I brag about all the time. You don’t find a [women’s flag] football program that has that kind of support all that often.”
