Holy Handmaid’s Tale! People are sounding the alarm on Tr*mp’s rhetoric around gender-based voting
The SAVE America Act is just as dystopian as it sounds

Between being exposed as a liar by congress members, dealing with the failure of the TPUSA halftime show, and constantly fighting diaper rash, Tr*mp has had a no good, very bad week. Which means that the American people are about to face a whole new sh*tstorm, since our sitting despot loves nothing more than taking out his personal issues on the rest of us.
In the midst of an already dramatic week, Tr*mp has been stealthily urging his goons to push through a bill that could make voting and other basic liberties much more difficult for millions of Americans—primarily immigrants and married women.
The deceptively-named SAVE America Act already passed in the House in 2025 and just passed there once again, per yesterday’s vote. If made law, the measure could eventually require prospective voters to provide proof of citizenship as well as photo ID in order to cast their ballots. Seems right in line with the dystopian Handmaid’s Tale agenda of the TPUSA halftime commercials!

Not only is this is a clear attack on an immigrant population that’s already being brutalized on the streets, it could spell trouble for citizens also.
An early version of the bill required either a passport or birth certificate to be displayed, causing potential issues for millions of married women whose married names don’t match those documents. The version of the bill that passed is milder, but still concerning. Under the SAVE America Act, states would to submit a list of voters to Homeland Security regularly. In a country already facing a voting crisis, this doesn’t only deter marginalized people from voting, it transforms the 15th amendment into a mass surveillance opportunity.
As we’ve seen with anti-immigrant measures and the current wave of ICE terrorism in Minnesota, aggressive measures meant to harm and surveil immigrants often end up hurting American citizens as well. More Americans than ever before have passports now (I wonder why!?!?) but the total number is still just over half the population. According to the Southern Poverty Law center, over 21 million Americans lack both a passport or a birth certificate. For citizens whose current legal name doesn’t match these earlier ID documents, the proposed voting process could be held up or disputed.
The measure doesn’t only create a dangerous precedent for challenging the constitutionally-protected right to vote in this country, it sows distrust in the voting system that’s already in place.
“We’ve got to look at this in its totality,” president and CEO of Fair Elections Center Rebekah Carruthers told The Guardian. “The whole point of this is to restrict who gets to vote in this country.”
This move is completely in line with Tr*mp’s authoritarian efforts to transform the country from a democracy into his own personal toilet. So far, sadly, he’s succeeding. But with Pam Bondi in the hot seat and new revelations from the unredacted Epstein files hitting the man where it hurts, something’s got to give.
The massive ICE push has helped distract the broader populace from shady measures like the SAVE America Act quietly moving through the channels, but as we’ve seen from the fighting back in Minnesota, Americans tend to stay united when it comes to protecting certain (not all) constitutional rights.
