Israel Declined To Join Multi-Nation Condemnation Of Hungary’s Latest Raft Of Anti-LGBTQ Rights Legislation

Haaretz reports:

Israel has chosen not to join the United States and other Western countries in condemning Hungarian legislation that the countries say will harm the local LGBTQ community.

The statement, which has been signed by more than 30 countries including France, Germany, Australia and Ukraine, expresses concern over a series of laws promoted in recent months by the government of Prime Minister Viktor Orban that impinges on the LGBTQ community’s rights.

It was issued last week ahead of a Pride Parade in Budapest over the weekend. The Walla news site reported that the U.S. government had asked Israel to join the declaration but that Jerusalem opted not to due to close diplomatic ties with Hungary.
