Join us on the Pride Cruise 2026! “Bunte Horizonte” on TUI Cruises’ LGBTQ+ Cruise

Karl Krause

June 2026 will bring plenty of color to the Mediterranean. With the “Bunte Horizonte” Pride Cruise (colorful horizons), TUI Cruises is launching an European LGBTQ+ themed cruise aboard the Mein Schiff fleet that intentionally brings together queer visibility, community, and the cruise experience. For us, the Bunte Horizonte cruise is especially exciting because it sits right between two worlds. On one side, there is the classic cruise experience with comfort, wellness, and good food. On the other hand, there is a clear focus on LGBTQ+ travelers, with dedicated program highlights, artists, and a queer community on board. After our experience aboard Mein Schiff 7, we wanted to know what a Pride cruise like this actually feels like in comparison. More party? More connection? Or simply a different kind of visibility? In this article, we take a closer look at the 2026 Pride Cruise with Mein Schiff. The route, the program, the differences from the Rainbow Cruise 2027, and our perspective as a gay couple that has already experienced several cruises.

What Is the Bunte Horizonte Pride Cruise?

The “Bunte Horizonte Pride Cruise” is an. LGBTQ+ themed cruise by TUI Cruises. That means it is a regular cruise with an expanded program specifically aimed at LGBTQ+ travelers. The cruise takes place in June, the month recognized worldwide as Pride Month. This Pride cruise is organized in collaboration with the Rainbow Festival in Cologne. In addition to the regular onboard offering, guests can expect an extra program with shows, music, and community events.

The important distinction is this: this Pride Cruise is not meant to be a straightforward party cruise. The classic onboard program stays in place. Restaurants, wellness areas, pools, and quiet spaces work essentially as they do on any other Mein Schiff cruise. At the same time, the atmosphere will be noticeably shaped by the addition of the LGBTQ+ program. Artists such as Katy Bähm, Eloy de Jong, and Berlin’s party series PiepShow bring a clear queer perspective to the table. There are also formats designed to build connections and increase the community’s visibility. That combination is precisely what makes this trip interesting. You get the structure and comfort of a TUI Cruises vacation, paired with a dedicated focus on diversity, connection, and queer experiences.

But how much does that program actually shape this European LGBTQ+ cruise? And does the atmosphere feel more like a classic cruise or more like an LGBTQ+ event at sea? We take a closer look at it in this article.

Route, Itinerary & Booking of the 2026 Pride Cruise

The 2026 Pride Cruise with TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff sets off through the Eastern Mediterranean for seven nights in June, combining several well-known destinations with a clear focus on sunshine, short distances, and varied stops. The cruise starts and ends in Heraklion on the Greek island of Crete. From there, the itinerary begins with a sea day before continuing to Argostóli on Kefalonia. The island is known for its green landscapes and quiet coastline, making it a good fit for relaxed days ashore. After another sea day, the ship reaches Piraeus near Athens. Here, guests can either explore the Greek capital or opt for a slower-paced day. The mix of culture, history, and city life makes this one of the most versatile stops on the trip.

One of the clear highlights of the route is the following stop in Mykonos on June 17, 2026. For decades, the island has been considered one of Europe’s best-known LGBTQ+ travel destinations. Open beaches, a vibrant scene, and a liberal atmosphere make Mykonos a fitting part of this Pride Cruise. Thereafter, the route continues to Bodrum, Turkey, before returning to Heraklion. Overall, the itinerary offers a balanced mix of sea days and port stops, leaving plenty of room for on-board relaxation while still delivering various exciting ashore experiences. To us, this route feels carefully chosen. It combines classic Mediterranean destinations with a distinctly queer highlight, creating a framework that works for relaxed cruise travelers, LGBTQ+ guests, and queer cruise fans.

The LGBTQ+ Program on Board the Bunte Horizonte Pride Cruise

The added program is the heart of this Pride Cruise and what sets it apart from a regular TUI Cruises sailing. At the same time, one thing remains important: the classic onboard offering continues. If you want a quiet evening, you will still find one. If you want shows, music, and community, that is there too.

For the 2026 Pride Cruise, TUI Cruises has announced a dedicated lineup. Among the confirmed names are Katy Bähm, Eloy de Jong, Kena Amoa, David Modjarad, and Berlin’s party series PiepShow. The program is rounded out by hosts, comedy, and additional stage formats. Performances take place in the ship’s regular venues. No extra tickets are required. In terms of content, the program moves between party, live performance, and community formats that create connection and visibility. That is essentially what sets it apart from classic cruises, where LGBTQ+ offerings are usually limited to individual gatherings such as the so-called Rainbow Meet-Up.

At the same time, the trip stays open to different expectations. Travelers coming on board specifically for the program will find plenty to do to fill several evenings in a row. Those who see the cruise more as a vacation with selected events can choose just the highlights that appeal to them. For us, that balance is what matters most. The program is visible and shapes the atmosphere, but it does not define the entire day. That creates a mix of classic cruise travel and LGBTQ+ event energy that can be experienced differently depending on your travel style. One question remains open: how much does this program actually change the dynamic on board? That is something we will revisit after the trip.

Who Is the Pride Cruise For?

The Pride Cruise “Bunte Horizonte” on TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff does not speak only to one type of traveler. The combination of a classic cruise and an LGBTQ+ program naturally brings together different travel styles. This trip is a good match for gay couples who want an open setting without needing to be part of a party or event all the time. If you want to relax during the day, enjoy good food, spend time in the spa, and choose a few specific program highlights in the evening, this balance may feel just right. The Pride Cruise can also appeal to groups of friends or solo travelers. The added program naturally creates more opportunities for people to connect.

At the same time, there is still enough room to step back and shape your own day independently. This trip is probably less suited to travelers expecting a nonstop party cruise from morning to night. The Pride Cruise clearly leans into openness and community. For us, that middle ground is what makes this gay-friendly cruise appealing. A trip that leaves enough room for peace and quiet while also making it possible to be part of a queer community on board. That combination is what sets it apart.

Pride Cruise 2026 vs. Rainbow Cruise 2027: The Differences

Even though both trips may seem similar at first glance, the Pride Cruise “Bunte Horizonte” and the Rainbow Cruise differ in several important ways. If you are trying to decide which trip suits you better, it is worth taking a closer look at both. Let’s start with the most significant difference: the concept. The Pride Cruise is a themed cruise within TUI Cruises’ regular offer. That means the classic onboard program stays in place and is expanded by an additional LGBTQ+ program. This makes the cruise attractive to guests seeking a mix of relaxation, comfort, and select events.

The Rainbow Cruise, by contrast, is designed as an event cruise. Here, the queer community is central to the overall experience. The program is more strongly shaped by shared experiences, parties, and connections. The dynamic on board is likely to feel different as a result. While the Pride Cruise leaves more room for different travel styles, the Rainbow Cruise will probably be defined much more by the community experience itself, depending on how the days and nights unfold.

Another difference is timing. The Pride Cruise intentionally takes place in June during Pride Month and draws directly on that atmosphere. The Rainbow Cruise, on the other hand, is positioned as a standalone event in the late summer of 2027.

For us, that creates a fairly clear distinction. The Pride Cruise feels like a classic cruise with a stronger LGBTQ+ focus. The Rainbow Cruise, by contrast, feels like a deliberate event format for travelers looking for that kind of exclusive community experience. Which trip ultimately fits best depends on how you want to travel. More quiet and more choice, or more togetherness and more events? We are already looking forward to both. Hopefully with you?

Our Perspective as a Gay Couple

Even though we have not yet joined this Pride Cruise ourselves, we can still place it in context. Over the past few years, we have experienced a wide range of cruises, from classic itineraries to explicitly LGBTQ+-themed cruises. That comparison gives us a realistic basis for assessing the 2026 “Bunte Horizonte” Pride Cruise. What makes this trip interesting from our perspective is the combination of structure and focus. TUI Cruises is putting a format on the market here that does not rely exclusively on party or community, but intentionally brings together several needs. For many travelers, that may be the perfect mix.

At the same time, one open question remains for us: to what extent will the LGBTQ+ program actually change the atmosphere on board? Will it remain more of an added layer, or will it noticeably shape the whole trip? That dynamic is difficult to assess in advance. Based on our previous experience with TUI Cruises, we would expect the overall feel of the trip to remain balanced.

Open, visible, and still calm enough to step back when required. That has worked very well for us on previous sailings. For us personally, the Pride Cruise is above all one thing: exciting. It offers the chance to experience a familiar kind of cruise in a new way and to see how a stronger LGBTQ+ focus changes everyday life on board. Our final assessment will come only after the trip. We plan to publish a detailed review afterward and update this article accordingly.

Why We Are Joining the 2026 Pride Cruise

We made a conscious decision to join the 2026 Pride Cruise “Bunte Horizonte”. Not just out of curiosity, but also because we want to understand what this format actually feels like in everyday life on board. After our trip aboard Mein Schiff 7, we know how a classic TUI Cruises sailing works. Calm, structured, with plenty of room to do your own thing. Just to mention a few reasons, why we are interested in what happens when that concept is expanded with a clear LGBTQ+ focus. For us, it is not only about the program. What is even more interesting is how the atmosphere changes.

Does more connection happen automatically? Does the trip become more social? Or does the character stay largely the same, with the program simply acting as an extra layer? At the same time, we also see this trip through our lens as travel bloggers. We want to share our experience, put it in context, and show transparently what this Pride Cruise actually feels like. Not as advertising, but as an honest report from our perspective. For us, this trip is a chance to get to know a new TUI Cruises format and compare it with what we have experienced before. Everything we experience there will later flow into this article. That is why we see this piece as a starting point that will continue to grow after the trip.

Is the Pride Cruise with TUI Cruises’ “Mein Schiff” Worth It?

When we look at the bigger picture of this trip, it does not feel like a loud or overproduced promise. It feels more like an idea of how a cruise can change when it is given a clear focus.

To us, the “Bunte Horizonte” Pride Cruise feels like an extension of an existing concept. The structure stays. The calm stays. The quality stays. Added to that is a program that creates a connection and puts queer visibility clearly at the center.

The Pride Cruise with Mein Schiff is currently one of the few LGBTQ+ cruises in the Mediterranean offering this combination of route and concept. And it does not force anyone in one direction. You can be part of the community or step back. You can party or wind down quietly in the evening. That freedom of choice is what makes it interesting. Whether the Pride Cruise will actually feel the way we currently imagine it will only become clear once we are on board. That is why we see this article as a snapshot before the trip.

If you are currently considering booking a cruise with TUI Cruises and wondering whether this Pride Cruise might suit you, the answer is not simple. It depends on how you want to travel. If you are looking for a mix of a classic cruise and LGBTQ+ community, this format could be an excellent fit. Our final review will come after the trip. And that is when we will find out whether this Pride Cruise is more than just a concept or whether it really feels as good as it sounds right now.
