LGBTQ activists protest at NYU Langone after hospital settles with DOJ to end gender-affirming care for youth

LGBTQ leaders and community members protested at NYU Langone in Manhattan on Sept. 23 to condemn the hospital's recent settlement with the Trump administration's Department of Justice (DOJ) to end gender-affirming care for youth, representing the second such agreement with a New York City-based provider in recent weeks. The protest came just over two weeks after some of the same activists descended on Mount Sinai, also in Manhattan, after that hospital similarly agreed to terms with the Trump administration on a deal to end gender-affirming care for youth. Both providers — NYU Langone and Mount Sinai — had already discontinued gender-affirming care for youth before settling with the DOJ. The event featured trans youth, including 17-year-old Ocean, who was forced to change providers after NYU Langone stopped delivering care, and parents of trans youth, including Christen Clifford. Several out lawmakers on hand, including Councilmember Carl Wilson, Assemblymember Jessica González-Rojas, and Democratic nominee for Assembly David Siffert.
