Man Pours Paint On Nashville’s New Rainbow Crosswalk

Nashville’s ABC affiliate reports:

Mere days after it was painted and installed, Nashville’s first rainbow crosswalk was defaced by an unidentified driver. Hundreds of volunteers joined together Saturday, June 29 to paint the crosswalk at the intersection of 14th Street and Woodland in East Nashville.

The crosswalk is meant to be a celebration of Nashville’s LGBTQ+ community. It’s placed outside of Lipstick Lounge, the state’s only lesbian-owned bar, and is now covered with a tar-like substance. Officials said black paint was “purposefully spilled in multiple locations at the intersection of 14th and Woodland Streets.”

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) told News 2 a detective is investigating the incident, adding that surveillance footage shows a man wearing a black T-shirt in a white Ford van pouring paint out of the driver’s side window onto the crosswalk at approximately 12:25 p.m. on Tuesday.

Rainbow crosswalks have become a frequent target by cultists, who have been egged on by prominent right wingers calling them “heroes.” One man arrested for defacing a Florida crosswalk has received around $40,000 in donations, some of which has come from nationally known Trump supporters.

Nashville police are trying to identify a person who could be responsible for defacing the rainbow crosswalk in East Nashville.
