Man robbed in alleged anti-gay attack in Harlem

Two men allegedly stole a man’s wallet, $200 in cash, and a credit card while hurling anti-LGBTQ slurs in a homophobic attack in Harlem on July 16, according to the NYPD.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident, which occurred on West 154th Street on a Sunday. The attackers allegedly physically attacked the victim, who sought medical attention. It is not clear exactly what the assailants allegedly said to the victim.

Terrell Porch, 27, one of the individuals accused of the attack, was apprehended and is being charged with robbery as a hate crime, assault as a hate crime, criminal possession of stolen property, and aggravated harassment, police told Gay City News.

The NYPD is searching for the other apparent assailants.

The alleged attack occurred less than two weeks before a man was arrested in the Port Washington section of Long Island for allegedly throwing hot coffee on another man and voicing anti-LGBTQ rhetoric at a Starbucks location.

In June, the NYPD reported that Rainbow Flags — including Trans Flags — were vandalized at the Stonewall Inn on separate occasions during Pride Month. Meanwhile, a woman was arrested in February for lighting a Rainbow Flag on fire at a Soho Restaurant known as Little Prince.
