The Michigan Advance reports:
Members of the Michigan House LGBTQ Caucus and allies gathered at the State Capitol to read out their resolution recognizing June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month, despite a rainy afternoon. Republican House leadership is raining on their parade as well — the reading on the Capitol steps took place because, for the second year in a row, chamber leadership did not allow the resolution to be read aloud on the House floor.
“We encourage all Michiganders to recognize the value of diversity in our communities and to join in acknowledging the contributions of LGBTQ+ residents to the culture, economy, and civic life of this great state,” Rep. Julie Brixie (D-Okemos) read from the resolution. The resolution was immediately referred to the House Government Operations Committee, where it is expected to sit until June and Pride Month have elapsed.
