Queer Show Finally Makes NYC Bow

In 2024, there were big plans for queer, Olivier-nominated writer and performer Rob Madge to bring their hit show “My Son’s a Queer (But What Can You Do?)” to Broadway.
Well, anyone who has ever tried to get a show to Broadway knows that the road is anything but smooth, and that planned premiere was postponed.
Fortunately, this is a tale with a happy ending, as Madge is bringing the show to New York City Center for a Pride Month run June 12-15. We had the chance to interview Madge last year and get a preview of the piece. It’s warm, heartfelt, and celebrates family in the most loving and hilarious way. The title comes from Madge’s parents’ response to his coming out, and follows a lifetime of supporting, celebrating — and participating in — Madge’s living room theatrics, parades, and celebrations of all things Disney. It’s a message of love and acceptance we all need to hear right now, and few people can tell it better than Madge.
It's a story about living authentically, finding one’s voice, and — in more ways than one — having the perseverance to keep finding ways to tell one’s story.
