Pete Buttigieg marks the 10th anniversary of his first date with Chasten with the sweetest post ever
Happy anniversary, guys!

Pete Buttigieg has marked the tenth anniversary of his first date with his future husband, Chasten.
Taking to Instagram, Pete posted a photo of himself and Chasten on their first date. They’re attending a baseball game and posing with the club mascot.
“Ten years ago tonight, I went on a first date, arriving at the pub with tickets to that night’s (South Bend) Cubs game in my pocket in case our chat over beer went really well. Which it did,” said Pete.
“A decade later, I can’t imagine life without @chasten.buttigieg and the amazing family we have built together. And I can’t wait to see what the next ten years and more will teach us about life and love.”

Meeting and engagement
Chasten Glezman, a junior high school teacher, and Pete Buttigieg first connected via the dating app Hinge in 2015. They were both passing through Terminal 5 of O’Hare Airport in Chicago. That digital connection presumably led to their first date in Indiana.
At the time, Pete was the Mayor of South Bend.
Given how they met, O’Hare also played a role in their engagement. In 2021, Pete, then the new Transportation Secretary in the Biden Administration, told Seth Meyers that he chose the airport as the location to propose.
When the two men were passing through there to board a vacation flight together in late 2017, Pete asked Chasten to show him the exact spot he’d been when they first communicated with each other.
“I found this app that I could check on when it was going to be quiet at that gate based on when planes were coming and going,” said Pete.
“I kind of guided him into that spot. I was like, ‘Why don’t you show me that spot where you first were when we started chatting with each other?’
“I invited him to look out the window there and then got on one knee. I told him it would be a lot like being in the airport. Life with me would be probably hard to steal private moments, but also full of adventure. And, uh, luckily for me, he said ‘yes.’”
The two men became dads to newborn twins, Joseph August “Gus” and Penelope Rose, through adoption, in 2021.
Michigan
In 2022, the family established their permanent residence in Traverse City, Michigan, which is Chasten’s hometown.
Pete was replaced as Transportation Secretary when the new White House administration took office earlier this year. As yet, it’s still unclear what his career plans or political ambitions are for the coming years. In March, he ruled himself out of running for the U.S. Senate or for governor in Michigan next year.
In a Substack post, he said he’d seriously considered running in the state. However, “My party has a deep and talented bench here in Michigan, and I am certain that we will nominate an outstanding candidate for each office.”
Pete also wrote, “I am simultaneously thankful to be away from Washington and yet also more motivated than ever to contribute to the future of this country.”
