That time when Caleb Williams and his painted nails made one of the great throws in NFL history

Caleb Williams has been attacked by some people for painting his fingernails. Homophobes have claimed he can’t be an NFL quarterback because of this. Yet on Sunday night in the NFL playoff game for the Chicago Bears, he made one of the greatest throws in the history of the NFL.

No, that’s not hyperbole.

With the Chicago Bears needing a huge play, on 4th and 4, Caleb Williams dropped way back into the pocket. Then he threw a pass that will be recorded as “14 yards,” but that traveled 51.2 yards in the air.

He completed that pass throwing the football off his back foot. The vast majority of people couldn’t complete that pass throwing off their front foot.

A pass that will be remembered throughout the ages…

Bears interception was not the fault of Caleb Williams

What some Monday morning quarterbacks are talking about is Williams’ pass in overtime that was intercepted. Anyone watching the TV broadcast of the play was certainly scratching their heads, “What was Caleb Williams thinking?”

Now we know.

When you look at the aerial view of the play, it tells a much different story.

As former NFL QB Chase Daniel explained, DJ Moore, the intended receiver, gave a half-assed effort on a route that should have had him cutting harder to the open space. Instead, he drifted his route right to the defender, allowing the safety to jump his route and grab the interception.

The Chicago Bears have a burgeoning superstar in Caleb Williams. In his second season as the team’s starting QB, he. emerged as a passing leader in the NFL. His post-game speech in the locker room seems to have endeared him to his teammates, as well as many Bears fans.
