Drag Race legend Detox has revealed that she no longer has “the itch” to return to the franchise as a competitor.
On 26 July, the star tweeted her reaction to the finale of All Stars 9, which saw her best friend and season five/All Stars 2 cast member Roxxxy Andrews place runner-up to Angeria Paris VanMichaels.
“NOOOOOOOOOOPE,” Detox wrote of the result before telling a fan that, while she’s “so happy” for Angeria’s win, she’s “disappointed and heartbroken” that Roxxxy lost her third season.
Referencing her recent appearance at Roscoe’s All Stars 9 viewing party, where she revealed that she has an “itch” to follow in the footsteps of Drag Race alumni with a third shot at the crown, Detox then tweeted: “The itch is gone. Playin in my girl’s face.”
The franchise legend also issued a “reminder that runways mean garbage” because Plastique Tiara “urinated and defecated all over” the All Stars 9 stage, in addition to winning four maxi-challenges, yet lost out on a spot in the top three.
In the finale, the eight contestants – Angeria, Plastique, Roxxxy, Gottmik, Jorgeous, Nina West, Shannel and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo – showcased their talents in the Slay It Forward Variety Extravaganza.
RuPaul declared Angeria and Vanjie the winners of the challenge, with their extra three Benefactress Badges landing them a spot in the final alongside Roxxxy, who dominated the season with five badges.
Following a lip-sync to Janet Jackson’s iconic hit ‘Rhythm Nation’, Angeria was inducted into the Drag Race Hall of Fame, where she now joins Chad Michaels, Alaska, Trixie Mattel, Monét X Change, Trinity the Tuck, Shea Couleé, Kylie Sonique Love, Jinkx Monsoon and Jimbo.
Despite her loss, Roxxxy continued to remain a class act as she celebrated Angeria’s win on social media, writing: “Congrats to the crowned queen @angeriavm! For CHARITYYY!”
In her winners’ interview with Entertainment Weekly, Angeria said her victory sends a message to queer fans that “it doesn’t matter where you come from or how big your surroundings are; your dreams are even bigger, and you should always chase them.”
As a result of her crowning and four maxi-challenge wins on All Stars 9, Angeria raised an incredible $231,500 for her charity, the National Black Justice Collective.
The national rights civilisation lauded the Southern icon for her contribution, hailing her as an “inspiration to countless individuals, reminding us that our voices matter and our futures are bright”.
They added: “Thank you for using your platform to uplift and empower our mission and organization. We are so honored to have you as our queen!”
