There’s a new gay bathhouse in Birmingham, UK, and it’s offering something a little different
A bar that’s open to everyone and an upstairs sauna for men to explore.

Birmingham, England’s second city, gained a new addition to its LGBTQ scene last week. Yumbo is a bar and sauna from the same team that formerly ran the Just For You sauna facility.
They took over new, larger premises within the city’s Jewellery Quarter and relaunched last Friday as Yumbo.
But it’s more than just a bathhouse for the boys. The team wanted to open a space that brings spa relaxation, nightlife and community under one roof.
The upper two floors house the men’s sauna facilities, while the first floor has a “bougie bar” and social space that’s open to all members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Upstairs offers a range of facilities including a steam room, sauna, spa, ice bath and private rooms. For guests who prefer additional privacy and who don’t want to enter via the bar, Yumbo also offers a discreet entrance at the rear of the building.
The downstairs bar is somewhere to meet friends, enjoy a drink, or have a night out. The Yumbo team will be hosting themed nights, DJs, quiz events, karaoke and more. Afterward, you could—should the mood take you—visit the spa area upstairs.

“Our vision for Yumbo is to create a real hub for the LGBTQI+ community in Birmingham — somewhere people can come together, have fun, relax and feel at home,” a spokesperson told GayCities.
“We want to build something special with the community, not simply for the community.”
UK’s second city
Birmingham is known as England’s second city, and it has the second largest population after London.
Although Manchester and Brighton may be better known for their LGBTQ scenes, Birmingham has plenty of queer delights. The vibrant Gay Village, centred on Hurst Street, offers a welcoming cluster of bars, clubs, and venues with a distinctly unpretentious, friendly atmosphere.
Birmingham is also one of Britain’s most culturally rich cities, reflected in its restaurant scene. World-class arts venues, the newly regenerated Digbeth neighbourhood, a big annual Pride celebration, and excellent transport links make it a destination worth exploring.
Yumbo is open now at 1-4 Hockley Hill, Birmingham B18 5AA. Doors open daily at noon.
