Tr*mp’s White House just posted ICE propaganda, but–oopsies!–there’s a huge, gay problem

Not MY Ms. Frizzle!

Lettuce, beef, and blueberries are potentially unsafe to eat, gas is stuck at over $4 per gallon, and Tr*mp is bragging about winning a war that’s costing American taxpayers more by the day. But instead of doing anything to change this, the White House stays doing what it does best: harassing undocumented workers for no good reason.

Yesterday, the official White House Instagram account posted an especially cursed AI-generated image using the beloved children’s book series The Magic School Bus as a jumping-off point. Except here, the school bus in question was transformed into the much bleaker “magic deportation bus” carrying handcuffed immigrants toward a hellish unknown future.

“Kids are going to the White House page to learn about their government,” Aaron Parnas reported, “and this is what they’re going to see.”

Transforming a nostalgic children’s book image into racist propaganda is horrible enough by itself. But after catching a glimpse of Ms. Frizzle in that driver’s seat, the girls, gays, and especially theys would like a strong word.

“Ms. Frizzle would HATE ICE,” one commenter was quick to point out. I mean…yeah, no kidding! Not only was the 90s series written by a former grade school teacher who would have absolutely despised this unfair use of her work, the books themselves are about as far as you can get from the Tr*mp ethos as possible.

“The magic school bus was all about education and curiosity,” one commenter wrote on the official White House post, “not xenophobia, defunding schools and discouraging higher education.”

You can say that again! Perhaps even more importantly, whoever made this cursed copyright infringement of a post clearly doesn’t know that Ms. Frizzle is basically a canon lesbian. Not only did lesbian icon Lily Tomlin voice the icon herself in the 1994 TV adaptation, yet another lesbian icon, SNL star Kate McKinnon, voiced her in the recent reboot.

Even without these sapphic casting choices, it’s not exactly rocket science. Every lesbian exposed to this wonderful work of art can testify to the fact that Ms. Frizzle was always, and still is, batting for the Rockford Peaches. Why else would she spend the start of the episode “Making a Rainbow” inside a literal closet, wearing a rainbow dress? “You may be asking yourself what exactly makes Ms. Frizzle’s sexuality interesting, and there’s no clear answer,” one Autostraddle writer explained in 2017, just ahead of the reboot. But if you want to find evidence, it’s all right there. Ms. Frizzle is an unmarried woman in the arts who loves puns, science, and witchcraft. In the words of one commenter: “have you seen her earrings? She’s definitely a lesbian.”

So yes: suffice it to say that Ms. Frizzle wouldn’t be caught dead having anything to do with ICE, Tr*mp, or his hideous attacks on undocumented workers.

“Miss Frizzle would NEVER,” wrote one poster. “Why do they always go after characters that spread love, comfort, and kindness and make them into something to spread hatred and fear?? First SpongeBob, Then Spiderman, and Now Miss Frizzle??”

Great question, but we definitely know the answer. It’s because Tr*mp and his hateful administration despise what they don’t understand. The values of love, kindness, compassion, learning and diversity are so beyond their understanding that they can’t do anything with them other than try to twist them into symbols of hate.

The good news is, it’s not working, and it never will.
