Marc Jacobs reflects on that 10-man sex party scandal: “I’m not going to lie about it”

Following LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s recent sale of the Marc Jacobs label to WHP Global and G-III Apparel Group, the 63-year-old gay fashion designer opened up to the magazine about the future of his brand and his, erm, rather checkered past.
“I don’t have any definitive answers,” he told Vanity Fair. “I remain kind of positive, I guess, is the easiest way to say it.”
That said, fashion gays need not worry, because his iconic runway shows aren’t going anywhere, anytime soon.
For the first time in years, Jacobs also acknowledged that 10-person orgy incident that led him to quit Grindr… and landed him on Page Six.
Back in October 2015, the gossip rag shared an exclusive story about a purported sex party the designer allegedly threw with “up to 10 people.”
Apparently, he invited guests with a shirtless pic, “everyone was in their 20s,” and guests reportedly used drugs. (Jacobs himself has been sober since 2016.)
Following the story, Jacobs fired back via Instagram with a post stating the event was much more “mild” than “wild.”
“To whichever guest benefitted from calling this misinformation into The Post, I only wish you good health, happiness, and a long life to enjoy taking advantage of the kindness of strangers and talking sh*t about others,” he added.
He also shared a shirtless selfie of himself photoshopped over the Grindr logo with the caption, “Goodbye (for now) Grindr! It was fun for ‘group’ get togethers, but, what really excites me is my work.”
Of course, it was especially scandalous considering, just months before, the designer had accidentally posted a nude photo on Instagram with the caption, “It’s yours to try.”
(Although, to be fair, he owned the moment by later changing his Twitter X and Instagram bios to read the same thing.)
In retrospect, the designer finds both scandals humorous.
“I remember the Grindr thing was such a big deal,” he told Vanity Fair. “I’m like, ‘Yes, I’m a gay designer who likes to have sex. What can I tell you?'”
Now that he’s onto the next stage of his life and career, Jacob added that he gets “a good feeling about being honest.”
“It excites me to be open, and it excites me to reveal things that somebody else would keep secret,” he said.
“If I don’t want to answer, I won’t, but I’m not going to lie about it. Whether it’s what my drug of choice was or how many gays I saw in one night in Grindr, I don’t really care.”
Of course, Jacobs’ wild escapades may have slowed down due in part to his relocation to Rye, where he lives with his husband, Char Defrancesco, whom he married in 2019.
“If you asked me 10 years ago whether Marc would ever want to live outside the city, I would have said there was no chance,” Defrancesco told Vanity Fair.
“But now I can’t get him to leave. Home in Rye has become a real sanctuary for him. He loves the quiet, he loves being surrounded by nature, and he’s somehow completely devoted to feeding the squirrels and chipmunks.”
Sounds like Jacobs’ house is still the place to be!
