Alanis Morissette Says She’s Pansexual: ‘I Like to Leave It for the Epilogue’

Alanis Morissette, 52, said she’s pansexual about an hour into the Nov. 3 episode of “Handsome,” the comedy podcast Tig Notaro hosts with Fortune Feimster and Mae Martin. The talk had turned to her songwriting.

“I’m sorry for the men that hurt you, but I’m not sorry for the songs that came from it,” Feimster told her. Then she asked, “Did it make you want to be a lesbian at any point?”

“I’m pansexual, so yeah,” Morissette said.

Notaro did a double take. “Wait, you’re not really pansexual, are you?”

“I am.”

“You’re supposed to come into the Handsome podcast leading with, ‘I’m pansexual,'” Notaro said.

“You know, I like to leave it for the epilogue,” Morissette replied.

“You do know you’re the first in-person guest,” Notaro told her a few seconds later. Alanis Morissette Was Handsome’s First In-Person Guest

At the top of the episode, the hosts ran through the credits: more than 60 million records sold, seven Grammys, 14 Junos and membership in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, which inducted her in June. Then they introduced her as the episode’s “question asker” and their “first ever in-person guest.”

Her question for the trio was “What is the bravest thing you’ve ever done?” She added, “And I assume you’ve done many brave things, maybe even today.”

Notaro went first. She described the point, early in her relationship with her wife, Stephanie Allynne, when “I felt for the very first time in my life that I wanted to marry somebody.”

When the hosts turned the question around, Morissette chose endurance: “the cockroachlike perseverance and tenacity of just continuing to keep going when there are millions of reasons to not.”

“I think that’s brave,” she said.

By the end, Notaro was celebrating that Morissette had agreed to “come spend the weekend with us and meditate and watch suns go up and down.”

“That’s huge,” she said. Alanis Morissette and That ‘Sex and the City’ Kiss

“I reached out to them and I said, ‘Might it be a nice time for Carrie to experience a lesbian moment?'” Morissette told Alex Cooper on “Call Her Daddy” in September.

She was talking about her “Sex and the City” guest spot, in which she kissed Carrie Bradshaw. That episode, “Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl…,” aired June 25, 2000. ‘Butterfly With a Machete’ in LA, Plus a Holiday Album

“Night 2 was Ironic,” YouTube Theater posted on Instagram after the second night of “Butterfly With a Machete,” Morissette’s four-night residency at the Inglewood, California, venue. YouTube Theater bills the show as “a confessional and multimedia, multi-disciplinary musical stage play set to her music.” It opened Nov. 5 and continues the Las Vegas residency she sold out in fall 2025.

On Friday she released her first holiday album, “Good Weather for Immaculate Conception.” It has 14 songs, 12 Christmas classics and two originals, with guests including Brandi Carlile, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Joy Oladokun, Amythyst Kiah and Trans Voices, Consequence reported. SXSW London calls Trans Voices “the UK’s first professional trans+ vocal collective.”

The choir isn’t new to her. In October, she shared “Rest (Live in London),” recorded with the group, and thanked them on Instagram for “moving your wild and hair-up-on-arms magic with me,” with a trans flag emoji at the end.

Her Saturday morning post about the album didn’t mention the podcast. She wrote that it feels “SO GOOD to finally have a whole record full with so many amazing friends and collaborators with me,” and signed it “as always, mrs. claus.”

The residency’s last two shows are Tuesday and Wednesday at 8 p.m.
