Gus Kenworthy’s circuit summer continues with a dizzying weekend at Chicago Market Days
Gus Kenworthy is a proud party boy, and we love him for it!
Gus Kenworthy may be in the midst of training for what would be his fourth Olympics. But the trailblazing athlete took part in another kind of strenuous activity this past weekend.
Partying at Market Days in Chicago!
The two-day affair, which includes an array of themed parties, is one of the city’s largest summer street festivals. First held in 1982 as a sidewalk sale featuring shops and businesses on North Halsted Street–the heart of Chicago’s gayborhood–Market Days has blossomed into one of the premier destinations on the gay circuit calendar.
Several eyewitnesses, including perhaps this humble writer, saw Kenworthy taking part in the festivities. He was spotted at the annual Hollywood Gay Beach afterparty Sunday morning and then waiting in line for Queen Sunday night.

Much like any athletic event, hydration is key!
Lest anyone think Kenworthy was trying to keep his presence under wraps, the 2014 silver medalist posted stories on his Instagram account all weekend, providing his 1.2 million followers with a peek at the action.
The first Olympic skier to publicly come out as gay, Kenworthy has been one of the most visible out athletes over the last decade. He’s continually broken barriers, such as when he memorably kissed his then-boyfriend before his qualifying run in the men’s slopestyle at PyeongChang 2018. The smooch went viral, and was an unvarnished example of gay love.
Though injuries have hampered Kenworthy’s last two Olympics–he finished eighth in the halfpipe final at Beijing 2022–he announced this spring his intention to compete at the 2026 Olympics in Milano Cortina. The 33-year-old is aiming to represent Great Britain, his country of birth.
Kenworthy represented the U.S. at the 2014 and 2018 Games before switching to Great Britain in 2019.
“It’s this Olympics or nothing,” he told ESPN. “I’m never going to have this opportunity again.”

Gus Kenworthy blows out his birthday candles in a cheeky celebration
Gus Kenworthy is unabashedly gay gay gay, and we love him for it!
When it comes to seizing opportunities, Kenworthy thrives on and off the slopes. He started off his summer with the AIDS LifeCycle in California, a 500-plus mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
Kenworthy told Outsports the cause is deeply personal to him: one of his best friends is HIV positive.
“I’m doing the ride for him and for the countless others like him and for all those who weren’t as lucky to be able to come back from an AIDS diagnosis,” he said.
A few weeks later, Kenworthy relished a dizzying weekend at New York Pride, which he followed up with a trip to Provincetown over the Fourth of July.
That’s what we call a true gay gauntlet!
Through it all, he was accompanied by his boyfriend Andrew Riggers.
Whether it’s blowing out his birthday candles in a cheeky celebration or dishing on public showers, Kenworthy is gay, gay, gay. He’s public about his escapades and seldom filters himself.
A spokesman for major brands such as Visa and Samsung, Kenworthy is a commercial success, showing there’s no need for a gay athlete to hide his queerness.
While some out male athletes have historically played down their orientation–insisting it’s just a small part of them–Kenworthy embraces his identity. The proof is right there in front of anyone who wants to look, whether he’s on a sweaty dance floor or watching the sun rise with his reveling peers.
