Hackers Breach Dallas LGBTQ Resource Center

The Dallas Morning News reports:

The Resource Center of Dallas, one of the largest LGBTQ organizations in Texas, was hit by a data breach earlier this year. The breach was reported to the Texas Attorney General’s Office in July, with that filing indicating that the breach impacted more than 9,000 people, although other information indicates the scope may have been somewhat wider. The breach potentially exposed people’s names, Social Security and government ID numbers, as well as financial and medical information, including health insurance information.

The nonprofit’s letter said the organization’s files were accessed by “an unauthorized third party” and that the group had notified law enforcement. Multiple law firms have posted that they’re investigating the incident for potential litigation. The Resource Center was founded over 40 years ago and focuses on programming that includes advocacy as well as primary and mental healthcare and HIV/AIDS support services.
