“It’s gonna be a disaster”:This Virginia victory could turn Mike Johnson’s nightmare into a reality

It's not looking good for Mike Johnson

It’s no secret that the Republicans appear to be in very big trouble, and when the midterms roll around this November, voters will have a chance to finally wrest control back from the House.

Of course, Tr*mp and his cabinet of curiosities know this, and they’re trying as hard as they can to confuse and disorient voters so as to postpone the inevitable.

After a redistricting session in Florida was delayed earlier this month, all eyes are on today’s session in Virginia which could also change the map. But this time, the federal redistricting plan could come out in favor of the Democrats. Which is precisely why Tr*mp is currently “warning” voters about it.

Classifying Virginia governor Abigail Spanberger as a “liberal extremist” (lol), Tr*mp railed against the implications of tonight’s redistricting vote in the state, warning voters that if they vote yes on the plans to redraw the congressional map, their power in congress could be “wiped out.” Which, as usual, is total BS.

The fear here is that Tr*mp—and his favorite gremlin, House Speaker Mike Johnson—will lose their chokehold on the House after the midterms. But before the midterms even happen, smaller races like the ones in Florida and Virginia get to determine how many congressional seats each state gets. Currently, Virginia only has six seats. If the race tonight goes the way we want it to, they could be looking at 10 or 11, with a Democratic advantage in 10 of those districts. So… the total opposite of what Tr*mp is telling voters.

Nothing new there, of course. We know that Republicans can see the writing on the wall, and they’re desperate to limit voters’ power by fair play or foul. Obviously when we’re talking about this administration, it’s always foul.

“Tonight’s election could very well define the future of the House of Representatives,” Aaron Parnas reports, “and the future of the Tr*mp presidency, and he knows it.”

So does Mike Johnson, whose path to power has always rested on being a spineless yes man to his despot boss, even as the asks become more and more deranged. Last night, at a tele-rally aimed at Virginia voters, Tr*mp backed Johnson up by repeating that if Virginia votes yes on redistricting, “it’s gonna be a disaster.”

For once, he’s right: it will be a disaster for Tr*mp’s cabinet if voters in a historically blue state once again vote blue, narrowing the Republican advantage over the House even more ahead of the midterms.

But let’s not forget that Republicans started this fight. Last year, Texas became the first state to redraw their map to favor conservatives. Other states followed suit, and now the practice—a legal version of gerrymandering that’s still seen as controversial for obvious reasons—has found its way to blue states like Virginia, where lawmakers are fighting fire with fire.

Virginia Senator Tim Kaine put the proposition in plain terms over the weekend. “We’re giving Virginians a chance to vote… about whether they want to have a congressional delegation that will stand up against D*n*ld Tr*mp’s tyranny if he tries to interfere with our elections.”

If things go as planned, it won’t just put a stop to Tr*mp’s unchecked power in the White House. It could also effectively muzzle Mike Johnson and give us back some semblance of a balanced House, just in time for the midterms.
