Legal groups co-host National Coming Out Day mixer at Ginger’s

Several legal groups joined together on Oct. 9 for a National Coming Out Day mixer at Ginger's Bar in Brooklyn, giving attendees an opportunity to network and share experiences. The Brooklyn Bar Association LGBTQ+ Committee, the Puerto Rican Bar Association, New York Women’s Bar Association, and the Behrons Law Society of New York co-hosted the event, which sought to provide judges, attorneys, and law students with an affirming space to connect. Attendees gathered around the dimly lit indoor and outdoor spaces just days before the formal observance of National Coming Out Day on Oct. 11. The annual day fosters awareness and support for individuals who are coming out or who have come out. Claire Mooney of the New York Women's Bar Association and George Adames of the Puerto Rico Bar Association delivered welcoming remarks, while two others — Jason Canales of the Puerto Rican Bar Association and Christina Golkin of the Brooklyn Bar Association — also spoke to the audience and shared their own personal coming out stories. Ronald Cosme, Jr., the co-chair of the Brooklyn Bar Association's LGBTQ+ Committee, closed the event with remarks encouraging attendees to live authentically and be proud of who they are.
