NASCAR Truck Series driver Daniel Dye was indefinitely suspended by NASCAR and his race team, Kaulig Racing, and will be required to undergo sensitivity training after mocking an IndyCar driver’s voice as “gay” and doing an impersonation of it on a livestream. While opening packs of sports cards on the Whatnot streaming platform, Dye recalled meeting Team Penske IndyCar driver David Malukas last month at a promotional event in St. Petersburg, Fla.
“He’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, yas, we race Indianapolis, too. Love Indianapolis. And Roger Penske. I love Roger. Love you, Roger!’” Dye imitated, shaking his head as part of the impersonation. Then he added: “As soon as I start doing a David Malukas gay voice, I hit a gold (card, in the pack). So let’s keep it going.” In a statement posted to X after the suspension was announced, Dye apologized to Malukas and called the comments “careless.
