Rekindle your queer flame with a sexy tropical getaway in Puerto Rico

Queer couples need more than a threesome to keep their spark alive. Or, perhaps, a rendezvous with Puerto Rico is precisely what will reinvigorate their relationship. Travel is the viagra of love, and this Caribbean island is a unique destination in the US because you don’t need a passport to be transported to this sexy tropical getaway.

San Juan is obviously the face of the island, and people typically pay the city respect by drinking rum cocktails and dancing the night away (our pick to stay centrally located is Condado Ocean Club), sleeping with that Bad Bunny lookalike! But there are plenty of American cities where you can rumba *in gay*, and what distinguishes this territory is the fiber of its structure and its ability to incorporate nature into the most remarkable experiences for visitors, that is, if you’re open to a road trip southwest of the island.

A diversity of outdoor glamour

Glamping is surely the only way to get the gays to volunteer to sleep outdoors, and Hacienda Verde Tahiti, located in Cabo Rojo, offers a 25-acres estate (including intimate rustic cottages) to act out all your Brokeback Mountain dreams. So embrace serenity and let go of all the city-jadedness you’ve nourished. Instead, take a stroll holding hands around the tree tunnel trails around the pitahayas (dragon fruits), palm and hay fields.

Kiss your partner under a sky filled with stars because the farm doesn’t have light contamination (it’s 100% eco-friendly and family-owned, making it feel all the more attuned to Earth). The enchanting pink waters of Las Salinas de Cabo Rojo and plenty of hikes, rivers, and waterfalls are a nearby drive.

Ok, we get it; while some people romanticize becoming one with nature, others glamorize making love in air conditioning. Couples who want beachier vibes with a resort experience can make their way to Copamarina Beach Resort & Spa. From beds on the beach to a trampoline in the ocean, this hotel aims to please. They offer boat rides where you can explore nearby tiny islands and lay in the middle of the sea, which becomes shallow enough to walk on.

Condado, Hacienda, and Copamarina coincidently are all absolutely Pinterest-worthy wedding venues. (I personally visualized marrying future husbands #1, #2, and #3 in them, respectively! But what can I say? I am a hopeless romantic.) Only assume you know what vibes you want once viewing all three. They each exhibit unique qualities to meet the standards of the gays that have been planning their weddings before they even came out of the closet.

Bioluminescent waters under the stars

A hand submerged in bioluminescent waters.

What every queer couple needs to do is take dive in La Parguera, which is one of three bioluminescent bays in Puerto Rico. It’s the only one that allows swimming and snorkeling. It isn’t easy to find travel experiences that are not just scenic or memorable but absolutely majestic in a way you feel it dripping from your skin. It’s titillating floating in an ocean (easier to do when it’s heavy with salt) surrounded by the dinoflagellates lighting up with each stroke and kick in the water. Any couples seeking to reignite their flame will watch it glow here.

Imagine swimming up to your partner in the pitch-black night sky where the only visible light is the stars above you and the brilliance of your motion in the sea. But, of course, you might be cockblocked by your tour guide, who will scream not to swim too far away from the boat. Safety first, privacy later!

Puerto Rico is green with romance

Over the years, Puerto Rico has been hit by 30 hurricanes. Yet, any gay can appreciate reinvention and making the most of situations you can’t control, and the island only seems to rebuild stronger, livelier, and more welcoming than before. Mother Nature is neither a foe nor friend but what comprises Puerto Rico’s existence.

The gays might often be perceived as creatures of the night, but that doesn’t mean our only intention is partying. We’re multifaceted travelers, baby! Puerto Rico has risen as a destination to celebrate adventures of the heart. Haven’t you heard? The Caribbean is an aphrodisiac for romantic affairs.
