Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has once again demonstrated that his predecessor, Pete Buttigieg, continues to live rent-free in his head.

In a new post, Duffy took aim at moves by the previous administration to make roads safer for cyclists.

“Remember when Biden and Boot-edge-edge used YOUR MONEY for DEI bike lanes and climate change?” said Duffy. “THAT’S OVER. I just redirected $1.73 billion in USDOT grants away from Biden-era DEI pet projects.

“Now this funding is officially locked in to fix America’s actual backbone: ROADS, BRIDGES, AND SHIPPING PORTS.”

Duffy included a link to a Daily Wire article in which he was allowed to boot-lick the President.

“America is fortunate to have a Builder in the White House who knows America is only as great as our infrastructure,” Duffy told the outlet.

Duffy’s reference to “DEI bike lanes” is an attempt to dismiss the fact that in 2021, when Buttigieg was Transportation Secretary, the Biden administration announced $1 billion in grants for infrastructure projects. Buttigieg said at the time, “We’re proud to support these great projects that will improve infrastructure, strengthen supply chains, make us safer, advance equity, and combat climate change.”

Equity, in this context, meant supporting communities that have historically been underserved, overlooked, or actively harmed by previous infrastructure decisions.

Either way, Duffy’s tweet, and in particular his talk of “DEI bike lanes,” prompted a clapback.
