Sean Duffy’s latest attempt to drag Pete “Boot-edge-edge” backfires spectacularly
Transportation Secretary Duffy has once again demonstrated that his predecessor, Pete Buttigieg, lives rent-free in his head.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has once again demonstrated that his predecessor, Pete Buttigieg, continues to live rent-free in his head.
In a new post, Duffy took aim at moves by the previous administration to make roads safer for cyclists.
“Remember when Biden and Boot-edge-edge used YOUR MONEY for DEI bike lanes and climate change?” said Duffy. “THAT’S OVER. I just redirected $1.73 billion in USDOT grants away from Biden-era DEI pet projects.
“Now this funding is officially locked in to fix America’s actual backbone: ROADS, BRIDGES, AND SHIPPING PORTS.”

Duffy included a link to a Daily Wire article in which he was allowed to boot-lick the President.
“America is fortunate to have a Builder in the White House who knows America is only as great as our infrastructure,” Duffy told the outlet.
Duffy’s reference to “DEI bike lanes” is an attempt to dismiss the fact that in 2021, when Buttigieg was Transportation Secretary, the Biden administration announced $1 billion in grants for infrastructure projects. Buttigieg said at the time, “We’re proud to support these great projects that will improve infrastructure, strengthen supply chains, make us safer, advance equity, and combat climate change.”
Equity, in this context, meant supporting communities that have historically been underserved, overlooked, or actively harmed by previous infrastructure decisions.
Either way, Duffy’s tweet, and in particular his talk of “DEI bike lanes,” prompted a clapback.
What the f*ck is a DEI bike lane?— Cork Off! (@CorkYou) July 8, 2026
Sean, explain to everyone how a bike lane is “DEI.” Go ahead. Walk us through it. A bike lane is transportation infrastructure. People of every race, s-x, religion, and political party use bike lanes. Slapping the letters “DEI” on something doesn’t magically change what it is.…— Caring Guy

Sean Duffy says he "just redirected $1.73 billion."
He didn't. This grant program hands out money every single year — it has since 2009, under Obama, Tr*mp, and Biden.
All Duffy did was announce this year's winners, same as every Transportation Secretary before him. Then he… pic.twitter.com/3KHVgwH2S8— Edgar Allan Poe (@nonbobwes) July 8, 2026

Still looking backwards and mentioning Biden rather than looking forward and taking accountability— Gulliver Gadfly (@GulliverGadfly) July 7, 2026
it’s crazy that republicans think not wanting to be k*lled in a bike crash is “DEI” now
even when I drive I appreciate bike lanes because they give bikers dedicated space to go their own speed, rather than slowing down traffic https://t.co/Q0LAFSnGVN— sam (@sam_d_1995) July 8, 2026
