Nike and fashion designer Martine Rose have a new apparel collaboration celebrating “esports and the gaming community,” and two of the esports world’s largest LGBTQ names are at the forefront of the collection.

Eight-time EVO champion Dominique “SonicFox” McLean and record-breaking “Starcraft II” champion Sasha “Scarlett” Hostyn are featured within the promotion for the collection, showing off the esports-inspired gear in pictorials steeped in techno-futurism that show off unique facets of each’s personality.

Scarlett is pictured, keyboard in hand, among the bright lights of a wall of servers and wires, perhaps a nod to her work as lead balance designer for the video game “Zerospace,” with her hair styled as a nod to “Starcraft II” character Sarah Kerrigan, with whom she shares the nickname “Queen of Blades.”

SonicFox’s depiction highlights the visibility they have brought to the furry community throughout their career. They posed both in the iconic fursuit headpiece and as an anthropomorphized fox-human hybrid straight out of Dr. Moreau.

Nike and Martine Rose describe the collection’s gaming inspiration as a celebration of gaming as “a space where anyone can compete, connect and belong” and “reflecting the possibilities of what sport can be and who it can represent.”

“Gaming is a new lens into how we view sport, and I want to help expand that lens,” Rose said in a statement. “I’ve always been interested in finding the corners of mainstream cultures and shining a light on them through fashion, and this collaboration with Nike offers a unique opportunity to do that in a way that’s authentic to gamers and their communities.”

An unintended yet very funny outcome of the collection’s announcement came via SonicFox’s social media. After it was picked up by professional no-life-haver Chaya Raychik’s Libs of TikTok account, SonicFox rallied a community response with a single quote tweet saying “I’ve always wanted to ratio Libs of TikTok” that gained more than 100,000 likes versus the original hateful post’s just over 6,000.

“Omg I got my first 100K Likes and that was dunking on a bigot. How thematic. You guys are all wonderful thank you so much for the support,” they said on X, formerly Twitter. “Damn I only said to ratio not to obliterate jfc LMAOO.”
