Oklahoma kicker Tate Sandell was clutch on Saturday in the Sooners’ 33-27 win over Tennessee. He made all four field goals, three of them longer than 50 yards, yet it was his attire that grabbed the spotlight.
Sandell was basically wearing tight compression pants that went up mid-thigh, showing a lot of leg. And gays fan liked what we saw — tight, muscular quads and nice calves. One online wag suggested Sandell win the “Thighsman Trophy.”
Sandell said after the game that his shorts were shorter than usual because they ripped and he had a hard time keeping them up. “I didn’t know they were that short. But I’m not gonna say I’m gonna change it, because it’s working,” he said.

The shorts drew the attention of ESPN announcers Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit, with Herbstreit tut-tutting Sandell’s look.
“That should be a penalty,” Herbstreit said. “Just dressing like that should be a penalty. What the hell is it? Wearing shorts out there?”
After Sandell nailed a 55-yard field goal, Fowler said, “Short shorts, but not short on distance.” To which Herbstreit said, “Got his Daisy Dukes on and puts it right down the middle…”

Former NFL player and noted weirdo and homophobe Antonio Brown called Sandell his “cracker of the week,” which given the source should be taken as a compliment. On X, Sandell replied to Brown with a meme from “Ace Ventura.” On Saturday, Brown posted an AI image of Sandell wearing even shorter shorts and captioned it with a gay slur that was truly disgusting. Sandell replied to this insult with another “Ace Ventura” meme, showing he doesn’t give a damn what a has-been like Brown thinks.
The shorts are not unique to just this past weekend as Sandell has been rocking them even in preseason media photos, though Saturday’s were even shorter.
Sandell is not changing his look, even as temps are likely to be chilly as the month goes on. It’s a smart decision. He won SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts against Tennessee, which included two kicks from 55 yards. If he keep booming them like that, Sooner fans wouldn’t care if he kicks in a jockstrap.
