For the first time, LGBTQ+ Pride flags are flying outside the Austin Police Department headquarters and other city-owned facilities throughout June.
The display of the flags is in compliance with a resolution passed by the Austin City Council in August 2023, which directed the city manager to fly the Pride flag at city facilities each June in recognition of Pride Month.
For city-owned facilities that do not have a flagpole, the memo states the Pride flag can be displayed in other ways, such as being hung on a wall or in an atrium, as long as it is in a publicly visible location.
