20 things that aren’t necessarily gay, but are incredibly queer-coded
We officially claim these things as part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Over the past 20 years, Queerty has been at the forefront of LGBTQ+ culture, and sometimes, that has meant reporting on things that aren’t exactly gay.
Alright, we admit, it’s a bit of an oxymoron — but what would the Kinsey Scale be without those cheeky little integers in between?
For every unabashed coming-out story, equality anthem, or blockbuster gay flick, there have been other people, places, and things that have greatly impacted and defined the LGBTQ+ experience without being explicitly queer.
Perhaps they aren’t the most straightforward colors on the Pride flag, but we’d be remiss to deny they’re woven into the fabric.
Below, we pay tribute to 20 things that aren’t necessarily gay, but are undoubtedly queer-coded.
1. Iced coffee

Rain or shine, snow or sleet, if there’s one thing a gay man is going to do, it’s drink an iced coffee.
But how did this chilled bean juice become such a queer staple? Scientists are still stumped, but we have a few ideas: 1) Caffeine, obviously; 2) Its easy-to-drink temperature allows for quick consumption; and 3) It’s just sooo fun to twirl the ice with your straw and then take a dramatically b*tchy long sip.
