Annual In My Mind Conference set to spotlight climate change, mental health
The 12th annual In My Mind conference, slated to take place Oct. 8 at the LGBT Center in Manhattan, will cover the intersection of climate change and mental health within 2SLGBTQ+, Indigenous, Black, and communities of color. Beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting until 6 p.m., the conference will feature speakers, researchers, and organizers who will engage in discussions pertaining to this year's theme, "Collective Care: A Climate Solution." Prominent speakers at the conference will include Meghsha Pskwasaw8n Barner of the Native LGBTQ+ Center for Equality; Damon Watkinsand Jess Lassoff-Santos of I-Care; Aidil Iman of Greenpeace Malaysia, and Fortunate Silinda of the University of South Africa. In the afternoon, there will be a memorial, "We Remember Our Own," while Talia Santiago-Bonds of the New York State Office of Mental Health will lead a panel discussion with government agencies. There will also be breakout sessions covering topics such as "Intersectionality in Action: Mental Health and Eco-Justice" and "Rising Pressures: Climate, Stigma, and the Mental Health of Caribbean LGBTQ+ and Gender-Marginalized Communities," as well as "Critically Challenging AI Usage in Corporate and Non-Profit America to Promote Equitable, Climate-Forward Thinking." The event will also feature light breakfast, lunch, wellness breaks, and more. The conference will close with a two-spirit invocation.
