Here’s how to eat your way around Chicago’s Northalsted gayborhood
Here's a fun and queer way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Chicago.

Taste of Northalsted, a twice-yearly food-and-drink-sampling tour of Chicago’s LGBTQ+ neighborhood, returns on Saturday, Oct. 3.
The event first launched five years ago and has since expanded to twice a year (spring and fall).
This is the first year that organizers are offering two different routes, each with around 20 samplers. Alternatively, you can book to do both between noon and 6pm (Route A for the first three hours and Route B for the second three hours).

You start your tour at one of the following starting points.
- Good Times Brewery, 3827 N Broadway (Route A Only)
- Center On Halsted, 3656 N Halsted (Route A Only)
- Roscoe’s Tavern, 3356 N Halsted (Route B Only)
- Out of the Closet Thrift Store, 3311 N Halsted
- El Bar, 3209 N Halsted
Whichever one you choose, you’ll be presented with a map and menu list when you check-in. It’s the perfect way to explore the range of what Northalsted has to offer, in relation to LGBTQ+ friendly bars, restaurants and businesses.

The routes offer the following stops.
Of course, not all of these locations are restaurants. Some are other service businesses, which will be offering drinks or other freebies.
Route A costs $30. Route B costs $30. If you want to do both, then it’s $50 for a joint ticket.
“Taste of Northalsted is a fan favorite event, and for good reason!” a spokesperson told GayCities. “You can’t beat the price for the incredible food and alcohol you get to sample. This year, we have split the event in two, allowing guests to sample at their own pace without filling up too fast. However, those hungry for more can sample both routes (40+ samples) for only $50.”
