The tees, totes, and tunes that got us through this week

It’s Aries season, a new Robyn album just dropped, and we’re one day closer to seeing The Devil Wears Prada 2 in theaters — who could ask for more?

On top of that, the past week of LGBTQ+ news was sprinkled with some gems, like the new baseball hotties who caught our eye, Luke Evans in fishnets, and the internet discovering the science of “catching print.”

How about we take this to the next level?

Plus, Hayley Kiyoko opened up about coming out, Perez Hilton had a come-to-Jesus moment, hot gay dancers were in The Comeback Season 3, and we celebrated World Bear Day.

But that’s not at all; there’s been tons of tees, totes, and tunes that have gotten us through the past seven days.

Without further ado, these are the 10 things we’re obsessed with this week….

1. Protect the Dolls Trinket Tote Bag

Protect the dolls, and their trendy trinkets, too! This adorable tote bag ($25 on LGBTQ Outpost) is from trans-owned small business SoftBoysClub, combining a powerful call to action for the trans community with the charm and whimsy of the internet’s favorite toys. Including, yes, a Labubu. Who said solidarity can’t be stylish?!

2. “They should be over that by now” T-Shirt

In light of the discourse surrounding that upcoming TV show based on the books by that author, this t-shirt ($30 online from Pander) has never felt more relevant or hilarious. The tee features a screenshot from an interview with lesbian treasure, Miriam Margolyes, a.k.a. the actress who played Professor Sprout in the original adaptation-that-shall-not-be-named. As she told the interviewer, “It was 25 years ago and it’s for children.”

I think her exasperated expression says it all, and your chronically online friends will get the joke immediately.

3. These divas queening out on QVC

Someone please check on Ms. Kim Gravel! The home-shopping network queen was rendered SPEECHLESS after a woman named Marianne called to thank her for the “peasant blouse with the tassels”… because she used to wear them on her pasties. LOL.

As the clip, which went viral this week, shows, Gravel took a deep breath before hilariously telling the caller, “You are my emotional support diva.” I think the gays officially found our new catchphrase for Q2!

4. What Mattered Most: A Memoir by Ty Herndon with David Ritz

I think country music history often unfairly overlooks Ty Herndon. The 63-year-old topped the charts 30 years ago with No. 1 single, “What Mattered Most” and was one of the genre’s mainstays throughout the ’90s and early aughts. But behind the scenes, he struggled with addiction, mental health issues, and his sexuality.

His new memoir — which arrives March 31 and is available to preorder for $24 on Amazon — gives an inspiring look into what it was like being the first openly gay male country singer, facing your demons, and fighting for your life. As Herndon explained in an Instagram post, “This book is my truth — the highs, the heartbreaks, the lessons and the love that have shaped me as a man, an artist, and a survivor. My hope is that in telling my story, others will find the courage to embrace theirs, no matter how messy or beautiful it may be.”

“For so long I was driven by the need to make people forget that story. Now, I don’t want them to forget it,” Herndon says.

5. Margot doing Kylie for Chanel

This week, Margot Robbie gave us the serve of a century in a recreation of Kylie Minogue‘s 2002 iconic “Come Into My World” music video for a new Chanel ad. (You know, the one constantly on repeat at Gay Guy Music Video Night, where there’s a million Kylies that strategically strut through the city.) On top of that, both Mother Minogue and original director Michel Gondry returned for the clip!

You know, if pop culture has to reboot something, I’m OK if it’s Kylie videos.

6. Garden Goose Plant Stakes

It’s giving, “Slay the house down, GOOSE,” mama! These undeniably cheerful ceramic geese (available in various sizes for $12 – $28 on Uncommon Goods) are designed to peek out from your planters, pots, or flower beds. Finally, your garden can serve playful pond realness without the honks, hisses, and squawks.

Plus, they’re handmade by a ceramicist in the Czech Republic, and represent loyalty, protection, and togetherness. And honey, we could use as much of that as possible right now!

7. Neighbors

HBO’s new docuseries Neighbors — all six episodes now streaming — is absolutely insane in the best way possible. The show is both cautionary tale and dark comedy, following chaotic disputes between actual neighbors across the United States. I can’t believe these subjects are real, and now I’m deathly afraid of ever owning property.

Bonus: The second episode features an overdramatic elder gay couple trying to enjoy retirement bliss in Indiana. Naturally, their neighbor is starting a farm.

8. “Dry Spell” by Kacey Musgraves

Once again, Kacey Musgraves understands the assignment! The “High Horse” singer recently dropped her new single “Dry Spell,” and it’s the most H-word country song to grace the airwaves in years. With a swaggering beat and husky tone, she sings about her less-than-active bedroom life. And if the winking lyricism isn’t clear enough, its comically repressed music video, filled with innuendo and egg plants, drives it home. Get this woman a man! Stat!

9. Sprints Race Day Performance Running Cap

As gay men, we have an innate need to constantly see and be seen, whether at the club or working out. That’s probably why the Sprints Race Day Performance Running Cap ($38 on Amazon) instantly appealed to me. Well, and the fact that it’s dark during my performative morning runs. Plus, it’s ultra-lightweight, fits most adult head sizes, and features a built-in sweat band, which is important because working so hard to stand out can make a man hot!

10. One of the most important gay guy scenes of all time

IDK what it is about this scene of an LGBTQ+ dude smoking and dancing to a pop song on his webcam, as seen in Sofia Coppola’s cool-as-hell 2013 film The Bling Ring. But a Gay Twitter X user really hit it on the nail when he said, “This is one of the most important gay guy scenes of all time.” You know what they say: representation matters.
