Olympic hockey player says Heated Rivalry reminds him of the times he hid his boyfriend

Argentinian player Nicolás Keenan is engaged to Dutch politician and likely future Prime Minister, Rob Jetter.

Argentinian international hockey player Nicolás Keenan has been watching Heated Rivalry, and it’s struck a chord with him.

Keenan competed at the Paris Olympics in 2024. He’s also queer and engaged to Dutch politician Rob Jetter, who leads the D66 party in the Netherlands and is likely to be the country’s next Prime Minister.

Keenan and Jetter met around 2021 when their paths crossed in a supermarket in the Hague. Keenan publicly came out as bisexual in 2023. He and Jetter became engaged in August 2024 and are set to marry later this year.

On his Instagram stories, Keenan said, “at episode 3… this is definitely the one I’ve liked and related to the most so far. Secret love behind four walls… been there, done that. Not letting Rob come to my games. Not letting him be part of my socials. Passing him on the street and acting like he was a stranger. Watching it now in the show… yeah, not proud of it.”

Episode 3 of Heated Rivalry is concerned with closeted ice hockey player Scott falling for barista Kip. Scott’s decision to remain in the closet places a strain on their relationship.

Keenan’s words were shared on X and prompted a large reaction.

What’s happening with Rob Jetter in the Netherlands?

The Netherlands went to the polls last October. Democrats 66 (D66) and the far-right Party for Freedom (PVV) each won 26 seats. This prompted negotiations, led by Rob Jetter, on creating a coalition government.

While these protracted negotiations continue, Dick Schoof has been serving as caretaker prime minister since his coalition government collapsed in June 2025. Many still expect Jetter to become the first, out-gay Prime Minister of the Netherlands when a new coalition is finally formed.

Jetter was quick to post an Instagram post thanking fiancé Keenan for his support after the results came in last October. Translated, it read, “Dear Nico, thank you for your unconditional support. I can’t do it without you ❤”.
