State Senator Scott Wiener drives right-wingers mad with his harness-heavy fundraiser
San Francisco’s Scott Wiener is running to replace Nancy Pelosi in Congress.

California State Senator Scott Wiener appears to have upset some people with a fundraiser he threw last week for his election campaign. Wiener, a Democrat, is running to replace Nancy Pelosi in Congress. The gay lawmaker currently has a slight lead in the polls over Democratic rivals.
Wiener’s current district encompasses a portion of San Francisco, and he is a well-known figure within the city’s LGBTQ+ community. He has long been a vocal advocate for queer rights, and often attends events such as the Folsom Street Fair.
Wiener held his latest fundraising event on Thursday in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley. He posted photos on social media afterward.
We’re guessing many of those in attendance were also gay. Several of the men wore chain harnesses. Weiner himself appears to have a leather harness strap visible beneath his black-tie suit jacket.

Last night was a movie…jk it was an LGBTQ fundraiser. But it was a really incredible fundraiser!

Wiener also gave a speech in which he said Democrats had “not done enough” in the recent past, hence the reason they are not in power right now. He went on to say building “millions more homes” was a priority in order to make housing more affordable. Wiener also voiced support for Medicare and turning the US back into a nation where “everyone is welcome.”
On Instagram, Wiener said, “Thank you to our incredible hosts, dancers, drag queens, and everyone who came out to support. I’m so humbled and grateful for the way San Francisco’s LGBTQ community has always rallied behind me. Even when it’s not the ‘popular’ thing to do, I have always fought for our rights. And I always will. It’s possible to fight for affordable housing, universal healthcare, and safe streets while also fighting for the basic rights and dignities of LGBTQ people. To my community: I will always have your back. Thank you for having mine.”
Online, the photos and videos prompted great reaction. Wiener supporters praised him.
“Scott is a treasure of SF’s LGBT community and we’re so proud of his tireless work fighting for us,” said one.
However, predictably, many others, particularly those on the right of the political spectrum, expressed outrage. Many of them took umbrage with items of attire.

Why do these men have zero respect for themselves? Just because you are attracted to the same s*x does not mean you ought to dress n*ked in chains. My goodness.— Literacy & Common Sense (@thsuburbanmommy) April 18, 2026
The criticism continued on Facebook.

Wiener’s campaign and rivals
According to the Bay Area Reporter, Wiener’s fundraiser attracted over 200 guests and raised around $200,000.
Wiener’s Democratic competition comes in the shape of tech entrepreneur Saikat Chakrabarti, Connie Chan and Marie Hurabiell. Chakrabarti has spent almost $4.82 million of his own fortune on his campaign. Despite this, Wiener is currently considered the marginal frontrunner.
The primary election will be held on June 2. The top two contenders, regardless of party, will advance to a general election in November.
Wiener dropped a new campaign ad last week. Standing at 6’7” tall, it dubs him the “giraffe”, unafraid to stick his neck out for his constituents.
I've spent my life sticking my neck out for San Francisco. Building housing to bring down costs, protecting our healthcare, and making sure ICE can't hide behind masks. I've got a long neck, and an even longer track record of serving this community. I'd be honored to represent… pic.twitter.com/9shopzVVbf— Senator Scott Wiener (@Scott_Wiener) April 14, 2026
