WATCH: Latin pop hunks Christian Chávez & Johann Vera collab to turn the “Closet” into a Pride anthem
The queer Latin hunks join forces for the first time.

Two of the hottest queer Latin pop stars have joined forces on a special project in time for Pride Month.
Christian Chavez of the Mexican supergroup RBD and Ecuadorian heartthrob Johann Vera have collaborated on a duet and music video that packs an emotional punch expressing their talents and shared experiences as queer men.
The duo created a new version of Vera’s Spanish-language single “Closet,” the anthem he used as a vehicle to come out himself last year.

Watch Vera’s coming out via the original version of “Closet.”
In the new black and white version, Vera and Chavez don similar matching denim outfits while harmonizing their voices to the song’s lyrics of self-empowerment.
The pair alternate singing the verses and chorus, with a final embrace as they belt out the song’s emotional outro which describes no longer presenting your partner as your friend & coming out of the closet that has never existed:
Yo ya no voy a presentarlo como amigo
Salgo de un closet que nunca ha existido
Chavez had been someone Vera looked up to for years as the RDB singer was one of the first prominent Latin American artists to come out when he announced he was gay back in 2007.
In a new interview, Vera disclosed how Chavez was a fan of his song “Closet” and was looking for an opportunity in which they could collab.
It’s been less than a year since Vera came out and he said working with Chavez was “very healing.”
“It was like therapy for me. It’s been beautiful to have a friend in the industry that’s so well known in the LGBTQ+ community and that can guide you and help you through his experience,” Vera shared with Remezcla.
“We wanted to show a message of support and unity between two people from our community.”
Vera, 29, is making up for the time he was closeted.
“It’s been a super fun year,” Vera previously told Queerty. “I put out my first EP and this is my first time not giving a f**k regarding things and just doing it. I’m not wasting time. Amazing things happen when you just do it and that’s what I’m doing.”
In addition to his his EP Nada Importa En Verdad and several music videos, Vera released his line of men’s underwear entitled Duro.
While Chavez,41, recently dropped his new solo EP, Sí, and the sultry music video to the Spanish-language track “Si Te Hablara De Él,” which translates to: if I told you about him.
He’s also leaning into his LGBTQ+ advocacy work.
In May, Chavez collaborated with Yaaj México, a local nonprofit specializing in LGBTQ+ rights, for International Day of Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.
More recently, he spoke on LGBTQ+ issues in front of the Mexico City parliament.
Both Chavez and Vera hope their collaboration on “Closet” will especially help the Latine queer community feel more seen and heard.
“During Pride Month, Christian Chavez and I wanted to unite with a version of #Closet and remind you that it’s more than okay to be yourselves,” Vera wrote. “Always be honest, brave, and empathetic with everyone. Love always comes first.”
