A video of a woman enjoying her first exclusively queer vacation has gone viral and prompted a heartwarming response online.

The CruisingPod Instagram account shared the clip. It features a woman named Diane, who didn’t come out until the age of 77. People are thrilled she’s finally enjoying her life as a queer woman and experiencing her first vacation surrounded by other lesbians.

Diane recalls joining a convent on her 18th birthday. She stayed for six years before leaving and marrying a man. They were together for nine years. Diane says that for the next 35 years, she had no interest in having a relationship with anyone.

“But then two years ago I met a woman,” she says.

“We wrote wonderful poetry to each other. We made playlists on, what’s that called? YouTube?”

She says they were together for two years before it ended. This left Diane sad and tearful. Her friends encouraged Diane, now 79, to join them on a women-only takeover of a resort in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, along with 1,500 other lesbians. Leading queer travel agency Olivia organized the event.

Diane appears to be having the time of her life, picking up sapphic lingo and making new friends.

She admits that going forward, “I don’t know what I’m going to do, as I live on social security. So, I don’t know how I’ll do this.”

Many were touched by Diane’s story and it’s received over 127,000 likes in one day.

“She looked so happy talking about her love. Wishing her the best ❤”, said one woman on Instagram.

“So many emotions and childlike wonder! What a beautiful woman and soul, congratulations on your ever unfolding journey!” said another.

There was a second video, in which Diane talks about connecting with other women on the vacation. She also hopes to find “creative” ways to come up with some money to book another trip.
