Not too long ago, Stephanie and Janie Ellingwood — wives and Los Angeles locals — were at a bar that most definitely was not a women’s sports bar. They were watching their beloved US Women’s National Team. When they asked the bartender to turn up the volume for the game, they were denied.
Now, their new women’s sports bar — Untamed Spirits — just celebrated its grand opening in Silver Lake and is an official bar partner of Angel City FC.
“I want us to be free, and be able to watch what we want to watch and be who we want to be,” Stephanie told LAist in anticipation of the restaurant’s grand opening last month.

Watching your beloved team’s games at a sports bar might seem simple for many folks, but for just as many others, that only recently became a possibility.
Untamed Spirits is the first sports bar in the city of Los Angeles dedicated to women’s sports. Though it is the second to open in Los Angeles County: Watch Me!, owned by wives Jackie “Jax” Diener and Megan “Emme” Eddy, was the first, opening in 2024 in Long Beach. Ths bar has not slowed for a second since it opened, hosting numerous watch parties at their large outdoor area, and even a live podcast show with Christen Press and Tobin Heath.
Watch Me!’s Diener came out to Untamed Spirits to support the new bar, as both places are amongst the first in a wave of women’s sports bars opening all over the country.
And in the short time it’s been open in Silver Lake — between Downtown LA and Hollywood — Untamed Spirits has hit the ground running.
My girlfriend and I recently moved to Silver Lake, and I’ve been able to visit the bar several times. Each visit has made me more excited about the future of Untamed Spirits. The place is consistently crowded, with folks and families of diverse backgrounds often overflowing to the outdoor patio area for various yard games.
You can see and feel the excitement from patrons as they cheer on their hometown team, in their newfound hometown bar, giving the atmosphere a sweet buzz about it.
In addition to knowing you’ll catch women’s sports at Untamed Spirits, you’re certain to get incredible food and drinks at affordable prices. The restaurant has a long happy hour, weekend bottomless mimosas and a variety of elevated bar food made by chef Jude Shin.
Untamed Spirits is destined to become a staple of the area, so be sure to check out the latest hotspot for women’s sports in Los Angeles when you can.
