Rob Jetten and his fiancé, Nicolás Keenan, are expecting their first child in spring 2027. The Dutch prime minister and Argentine hockey player announced the pregnancy Oct. 19.

“Someone very special is on the way. See you in 2027, little one,” the couple wrote in their joint Instagram announcement. They posted the news in Dutch, Spanish and English.

“There are no words big enough to thank our eggdonor, our surrogate mum Lisa and both their families. None of this would be possible without you.”

I’m glad their announcement gives the women helping them become parents a place in the story. Both are Dutch and know the couple personally. Rob Jetten and Nicolás Keenan’s baby announcement

Jetten’s party, D66, put out a statement the same day. “We are incredibly grateful that, thanks to two wonderful women, we now have the opportunity to make our dream come true,” Jetten said. “The surrogate mother and the baby are doing well, which is of course the most important thing for now. We strongly urge everyone to respect the privacy of those involved.”

Lisa got her own say in the release. “I grew up in a warm and loving environment and now have a wonderful family of my own,” she said. “With the unconditional support of our loved ones, surrogacy feels like a very special way to help make the dream of our dear friends come true.”

D66 says Lisa and her partner are friends of the couple and already have children. The egg donor is a close acquaintance. Neither woman is being paid. IVF took place in the Netherlands, in accordance with Dutch law, the party says.

The couple announced the pregnancy as more people learned about it, hoping to avoid a leak. They asked the media to respect both women’s privacy. Neither is available for interviews. Surrogacy and parenthood in the Netherlands

Dutch government guidance allows private surrogacy arrangements with someone the intended parents know, including reimbursement of pregnancy expenses. Public advertising to find or become a surrogate is prohibited. So is promoting commercial surrogacy.

Under Dutch parentage rules, the woman who gives birth is the legal mother at birth, including with a donor egg. The couple haven’t disclosed their individual legal arrangements. Two careers and a growing family

Keenan, 29, plays for Argentina’s national field hockey team and HC Klein Zwitserland in the Netherlands. He competed in both the Tokyo and Paris Olympics. The couple got engaged in 2024.

According to D66, Keenan has arranged to continue playing for his club and country while becoming a father. Jetten plans to take several days off around the birth before returning to work.
