Feeling exposed, sensual touch & no “funk of 40,000 years” wafting from armpits: Hairless guys sound off on being smooth

Smooth guys are speaking out...

Is shave shaming the new bottom shaming?

It’s a question that’s been raised on the company Slack channel over the last couple of weeks, given the overwhelming love for hairy pecs and bushy underarms. Just a couple of weeks ago, Queerty readers urged other men to “let their gardens grow” this spring season.

As a hairy guy myself, I am pleased about this fury fandom. GQ declares that chest hair is back and also says that “men are posting bush–and that’s fine!”

Indeed it is. But amid all of the love for mustaches and mullets, some feel that smooth guys are getting the shaft.

How about we take this to the next level?

So this week, we’ve decided to let the hairless masses speak. Here’s what they had to say…

What’s the best part about being smooth?

“Let your garden grow!” Gays exclaim their love for body hair
Queerty readers love them some body hair…

“I love the ability to run my hands up and down my torso without feeling any friction from body hair.  I love the feeling of being smooth and exposed.” — Steve in Florida

“I love the silky smoothness.” — Kyle in Walnut Creek, California

“The look. The feel. I am naturally smoother than most men. Taking off the rest is easy.” — KB in Dallas

“I’m not completely smooth, my legs and arms have hair. My chest and back are completely hairless and I like the look and feel of my body being such; I’m not attracted to a lot of body hair on a man, though a little chest hair and tummy trail can be very hot.” — Glenn in Albany, New York

Tummy trail or treasure trail? Oh, the choices are hard…

“More sensation in intimate areas and a smooth glistening sheen when getting sweaty rather than a matted hair look.” — Andy in the U.S.

“A couple of components: 1) It shows muscle tone, aka workout results, subsequently providing an incentive to continue and escalate workouts, and 2) It serves my taste, flavor, etc. Bottom line: I love hairy guys, but they’re not my type. Adieu!” — Roger in Palm Springs

We all have our preferences! Just remember that respect, as Roger illustrated, is most important!

“Easy clean up after sex.” — Dale in Alberta, Canada

“More definition, look younger, less itchy and no hair poking through shirts.” — A in Canada

(Body hair doesn’t have to be itchy?)

“Clean as a whistle!! I do not have all of those odors trapped in body hair!” — Wayne in Kansas City, Missouri

While we admire Wayne’s enthusiasm, body hair doesn’t have to be smelly???

“Manscaping, especially in summer, is a must. For those that don’t know, trimming your armpits reduces body odor and if you’ve ever been to Basement you know half the club could use a shearing. No bigger buzzkill than a hot guy with the funk of 40,000 years wafting from their pits.” — Jason in Brooklyn

Oh, OK. Maybe it does…

“With no body hair, I can feel everything with such intensity. The caresses, kisses and feeling his body against mine are so tingly on my smooth skin! Makes me get goose bumps just thinking about it!” — Daniel in Lexington, Kentucky

“Shaving my chest and armpits makes me feel fresh and tidy. And trimming my legs shows off your work in the gym more. I have no problem with hairy guys. But there’s nothing wrong with those of us who chose to shave for ourselves.”— Tony in Los Angeles

Exactly! Do what makes you happy. (FWIW, this hairy author trims his legs ????)

“I’m naturally hairless and thankful. Having a hairy back and shoulders would drive me crazy. But kudos to those that love it.” — Mario in Sherman Oaks, California

“Visually streamlined and clean. Short and curly hairs around the house is unhygienic. If you found one in your lunch, would you think, ‘Wow, I like this new trend where I get to find random body hair everywhere?’ Most likely not.” — Smooth in Tampa, Florida

Probably not! But that feels like a conundrum that can be easily avoided.

Smooth…

“Tight t-shirts and tank tops look better without a furry undercoat. — Steven in Bend, Oregon

“Though I love hairy pecs, I myself like to be smooth because it seems cleaner.” — Brando in Texas

People think I’m nuts, but I love getting waxed. Actually, it’s called sugaring and it feels great. The last time I went, I saw one of my favorite OF creators, who obviously gets it all removed. He is completely hairless. I might try that next. — Jose in Miami

Yes, sugaring is real, and apparently hurts only half as much as waxing. Sign us up?

“I love physical dichotomy. So a hairy man next to my shaved body is a major turn-on. If they don’t like it, their loss. On to the next.” — Eric in Austin, Texas

Hairy or not, self-confidence is always sexy!
